However, this was done in front of millions of people and leaves Chelsea with a decision to make, they really need to come down on the manager's side or will be seen as allowing a player to undermine the manager. Chelsea have lost all five domestic games away from Stamford Bridge in 2019 and they've failed to score in any of those games (which included a 4-0 battering at Bournemouth and 6-0 mauling at the Etihad). Sarri could be sacked any day now so he just needs to toe the party line and make sure he gets his pay-off. That means playing down the Kepa incident and keeping the player in the team. Kepa was bought for £70m in the summer and it was estimated that the club overpaid by £40m to get him so Chelsea are clearly not going to want to alienate an asset they simply cannot sell (especially when you consider the transfer ban). Kepa quite simply has more power right now than Sarri and he knows it, which is why I think that episode happened. Kepa was so confident about being free to undermine the manager he even had the brass neck to wink at the camera just after it happened. Sack Sari - yes, it was likely before yesterday but now it's inevitable. How and when who know, but sooner rather than later. The new man coming in will need a big pair of you-know-whats to stamp his authority on the squad. I wonder if the FA will be considering some charge against Kepa - bringing the game into disrepute or whatever?

I'm not sure anyone is capable of managing that club because the players are so powerful. Complacency is bound to set in when the dressing room knows the manager gets sacked as soon as results dip. Don't think Kepa can be punished as the club were so quick to dress it up as a misunderstanding. They'll insist the manager wrongly thought the player was injured. They are sitting 3 points off 4th place with a game in hand. 2 points off the much fawned over Man United with a game in hand. Reached a cup final and took the best team in the country 120 minutes without conceding to penalties. In with a shout of wining the Europa League. If he gets sacked during his first season in English football, it will prove how farcical and detached from reality the game has become.

Ancelotti was sacked after Chelsea finished second, a year after they were champions. Di Matteo was sacked months after winning the Champions League and FA Cup. The lunatics took over the asylum some time ago.

I don't disagree BUT how much of the above can be attributed to Sari and how much has he inherited? It's all down to whether the power that be at Chelsea feel he is taking the club in the right direction rather than where they sit today IMO. Cobra Posted 26 February 2019 Author Report Share Posted 26 February 2019 Chelsea spent £70m on Kepa's transfer fee and committed to another £70m on wages. Mind-boggling sums for one of Spain's back-up keepers. This fine is unlikely to disrupt his standard of living.

He'll probably need to sub £5k off somebody to afford beans on toast in London.
