Jim Duffy is asking Dundee fans to be realistic about what can be achieved at the club.

I say to him and our fans, look to Kilmarnock.

Three stands full to bursting with fans who have been given belief, well done.

Yep, expectation is to have a squad with half decent players at football and not be relegated without a whimper, Jim.

I'd advise him to give up the old columns and interviews as he's regularly embarrassing himself now.

I think he's got a point to be honest. Over the last feck know's how many years we've been yoyoing between the top 2 leagues, it kind of suggests that we're roughly in our place. While we all want to be an established SPL side, we're not and while its sh1te its where we're at.

You can blame who you like for it, FPS, the Marr's, Jim McIntyre, the Illuminati, it makes no odds so maybe we do need to manage our expectations better, it doesn't matter how many fingers, toes and eyes you cross, recent history show's we're about average for our ranking in the Scottish game, maybe blame the SPL and SFA for not having a 16 team league.... It still won't do any good right enough.

Totally share this view. We haven't won anything of note for over 45yrs and have competed once in Europe in a similar period of time. We've been up and down like a prostitute's knickers and been owned by our nearest rivals more often than not. I'd suggest that a top 4 Championship finish is realistic, with promotion being the ultimate short term goal. Looking forward I'd say prioritising home wins in the Premiership should be an aim and retaining our top league place, if promotion is achieved, should be the priority. The cups are a bonus. I'd forget about budgets and the size of the support, sleeping giant fairytales and past glories. All these things only serve to increase the levels of expectation and drag us down. Within reason and with the opposition taken into account we should set out to entertain the fans, it's what we pay our money for. Putting a smile on our faces should be an expectation and not up for negotiation.

Think to be honest Jim's on a sticky wicket there.

I think most have realistic expectations now. Even before the start of the season, most on here were saying they would settle for 10th, or even take their chances in a play off.

To be fighting relegation for the past three seasons, and to have 1 home win all this season, with many games where a home goal was non existent, I think the media boys need to be cutting the fans some slack, not the other way round.

Is it a Scottish or Dundee thing just to accept that your sh*t

"He wants us to what? Be comfortable with the ball all over the pitch!? Pah! Get it up the bloody park, stop fanning about!"

Personally no thank you.

You can be successful, you can plan to succeed, it needs application, determination and a bit of luck.

Never ever lie down and accept mediocrity and defeat.

This kind of thinking has us where we are.

I know that we can be successful but I don't think that we should expect success. What is success anyway?, it's open to interpretation and means different things to different people. For me having a realistic expectation level means that anything that surpasses that level brings more joy. If I go to games expecting wins and cup runs I know that I'll be disappointed more often than not. I've set my expectation stall out just below where I think, in the average season, we'll be and anything that surpasses is a welcome bonus.

Maybe he’s been given the nod and he’s managing our expectations of him early!?!

To be honest I don't think that most of the supporters of Dundee Football Club are unrealistic in their expectations for their club. The same comments might have been made about Kilmarnock or Motherwell who have retained their Premier status for a long time. And St Johnstone as well.. Is it really unrealistic to compare the size of football clubs such as the ones above and equate them to our own. I don't think so. There is no doubt that in Scottish terms Dundee is a big club...potentially...certainly bigger than the three mentioned. The club has been mismanaged for years both on and off the pitch and yes it is unthinkable that we haven't won atrophy for 45 years when Ross County, Livingston Inverness and St Mirren and St Johnstone all smaller clubs have. So I think Dundee supporters are being realistic in their hope for the future but it is the future, not instant success. If we get the right manager and we have a structured plan in place we can most certainly attain to the level we are all craving for.

Well that’s just peachy for you, some of us have bigger ambitions for the club.
