My first match 45 years ago today...Dundee 3 Kilmarnock 0. Did I know what I was letting myself in for?

Pity we weren't at home today. Kilmarnock are closer, at Perth.

Can't remember a thing about the game except that Steve Murray was playing for us, and no doubt Jocky, Gordon Wallace et al. Jim and Tommy McLean for them I reckon.

Anyway, nostalgia rules ok today.

I remember that team well. Alec Kinninmonth was, as you describe, a thoughtful, skilful player but was too easily marked out of games if I remember rightly. The best game I remember him having was in a 5 3 (?) gubbing of United in the Forfarshire Cup final in , I think, 1973. The Forfarshire Cup meant a bit more then as there were only two league meetings per year.

Alec Bryce was signed from Clyde for £30k which was a fair bit then. Never really fulfilled his potential probably due to being injury prone - sound familiar? Had some good games though with a good goal against the sheep springing to mind in the New Year game in 1970.

We had some really good players and teams in the early 70's. Maybe too skilful and lagging dig at times as we basically ended up being kicked into the first division in 75/76.

Some great memories from that period though.

Steve Murray was just blossoming into a brilliant player at this time . He was my favourite player at dens at this time.. Was spewing when we sold him to Aberdeen just a couple o weeks after this game . Steve drove a red MG at the time , as a wee 14 year old laddie I was very impressed at the time by this canvas topped motor ha

blueboy.

The scorers were Houston, Scott and Wallace. The attendance was 9,000.

And thanks again!

Stevie grew a great mouser at Aberdeen. He came into Scott Fyffe on Kingsway one night when my mate was working there, maybe in the red MG, but I only recall the mouser!

That was the only Aberdeen team I had any time for. They seemed to be on TV every Saturday night.
