First post in ages so Hi to everyone.

Ok, if you could only pick 1 would you go for a new keeper or a new striker?

I feel Hamilton is good enough once he gets confidence back. I would rather the money went to a striker.

Thoughts. And why?

Striker.

Our new look defence should be good enough for Hamilton to be able to rack up the shutouts whilst sitting in a deck chair.

Got to agree, if we can get a good enough striker to play along side Nelson and get 15 goals this season we shouldn't be far away from promotion.

The season before last, Celtic won the title comfortably and these were their top scorers...

Sinclair (mid) 10
Griffiths (att) 9
Dembele (att) 9
Edouard (att) 9
Forrest (mid) 8
McGregor (mid) 7
Rogic (mid) 5
Ntchm (mid) 5

That shows that you can win a league without strikers hitting double figures if your midfield is delivering.

McDaid and Todd will both be hoping to score 5-10 goals (like last season) so I don't think we'll be totally dependant on strikers finding the net to get promoted.

Definitely need to sign a goalscorer though and Rudden could be the answer.

I agree with the view that Jack can come good for us between the sticks. He'll be out of the spotlight and facing poorer quality attacks so can rebuild his reputation and confidence, and become a better keeper.

First of all welcome back DD.

I'd definitely go for a striker. I don't think Hamilton is as bad as has been made out, he's lacking in confidence and will improve playing behind a settled defence. You don't win games if you don't score goals.

Defo a striker.

Hamilton will be fine in the Championahip. A bit like Letheren was. Good enough and pulled off crucial saves but not quite good enough for the premiership.

Although I will add that he does give me the fear a little in the same way Kelvin Jack did.

I like Nelson but we must bring in another 2 forwards. Rudden sounds like he would be ideal.

We have to remember that the likes of Simon Lynch hit double figures for us in the old first division so it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent striker at this level.

Striker- everyone loves a good striker scoring goals - that’s entertainment. Keeper a vital part of team bit less glamorous. Jack will do the job . We should be looking at being free scoring  , defence shaping up so should be all good  🙏🏼

Welcome back DD, trust the 'sabbatical' was a positive 'wee' break.

A penalty-box poacher for me....good points made by others re the goals we might get from midfield/wide this season, but we need someone who can be a bit more clinical than we've had since Hemmings. We need to win more than we lose in this league, to be challenging for promotion.

I'm certain McPake knows Hamilton's weaker points, and will have someone working on those with him...and if it really is largely his confidence, his team-mates can help sort that by being consistent.

New experienced goalkeeper for me.

Absolutely hate slagging off any Dundee player but Hamilton is one of the worst keeper's I've ever seen playing for Dundee. Basic errors nearly every game he has played. I've yet to see any indication that there is a decent keeper in the making there. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't see him being a success at Dens.

FWIW I'd be signing 2 new forwards and a new goalkeeper.

A striker. BUT......................

Hamilton can 'regain confidence' away from the first team, wherever that may be.

Just because we're in a lower division does not by default mean he will do OK. In fact, I think there are a number of teams that can challenge for the promotion/play off places, the pressure on the team/him this season will be huge.
