Dfc .... Are The Club And Us Getting Value For Money ?

I think (sometimes possibly rightly) when posters are seen making adverse comments about the DFC, club/players/manager, it can be interpreted,as being over-negative, or even been seen, being over critical, as a way of encouraging others to vent their criticism on all thing Dundee.

So can I say at the outset, although I like to encourage debate and discussion in nearly all my post topics, and read the opinions/ posts of those who might agree, or have totally opposing, strong held, views, as we are all DFC supporters and fans on the DB, there is no need to become personal, disrespectful, or personal towards other decent DFC members who have.    (Don't mean to sound "preachy" there)

(But on the very odd occasion, I look into the other forum, to see if it is still functioning, many posts seem to be of the snidey kind, with direct negative personal references to us, as ordinary members, specific staff members, and the Dark Blue Site in general.  Some there seem to think it is impossible to run a decent, honest, DFC forum of diverse views, without the usuall barriage of personal insults.

On a daily basis, we continue to show them, they are wrong. Let's keep up the good work. And keep the posts coming ....... Sounding patronising and preachy again......Sorry)

Apologies for going off track Although, the above is relevant. Jist pit it doon tae meh age :)

To topic ........The value for money is around two things. Alhough both are around what we pay to see on/off the park.

The DFC players we have under contract. Are we carrying far too large a squad, that because of a range of reasons are not up to the job,( too old, too many injuries, no' good enough) ?

And this means we are struggling each week to put out our best team ? There are lots of reasons for this, and some may say the restrictions in budget has to affect PH's choice of players he can bring to the club. Or even more simply, within his budget, he has made poor choices in buying.

I am not saying he has (he needs a season or two yet imo)    But I guess I am saying we can be critical, without being over negative, or falling into the personal insult mode.

Meanwhile, are we (or club) getting value for money on the park ...... or even off the park ?

Although the question asked there is around the club/us, getting value for investment, the second question is also around, is the club giving us value for money ?

(We are doing great in this division)

But I mean on a general level. Are they overpricing many fans out of attending (especially potential fans of the future) based on the general standard of performance on the park, and the general amenities/improvements off the park, and maybe even their general level of communication and invoLvement with DFC fans ?  And I understand we have top balance our books.

So, value for money now, or if it is necessary, how can we improve the situation ? :)

We're sitting top six, so I think our return this season has been greater than expected.

But VFM is a difficult thing to qualify.

For instance, the old chestnut of the prices for the cup games... did they give VFM? I think most would agree they did not.

And off pitch, do Lindley's give VFM..? Not a bloody hope.

It's swings and roundabouts!  :)

I agree with what you are saying there Joe, VFM is a difficult thing to define/quantify.

And each of us are bound to have our own ideas on it.

But my rather long introduction to the topic, was really also about how do us as DFC individual supporters, especially those, who may be financially struggling to simply pay their bills, and then have to justify, the additional costs of trying to bring themselves, plus maybe, a large family to games, feel about this.

Do others, especially in the situation described above, come away from the game feeling, maybe they have been short-changed  ...... had in general, VFM ?

It might be said, well they don't have to go ...... But I think there should be some concern, that some may be doing just that.

Still thankfully, "hingin in there" going to Dens, remaining DFC fans and supporters, doing all they can to support their/ our great Club, but being more selective and then choosing carefully, what games they can afford to attend.

I think that the club have to be a bit more imaginative when it comes to selling tickets for home games.

Not everybody can attend all the homes and I would suggest that the club consider selling packages of 5 homes games per season which could be limited to B games only.

Alternatively they could introduce Parent and Child section in the Bob Shankly stand again for B matches when the away support could easily be accommodated in the Main Stand.

Gone are the days when fans turned out no matter the weather to attend football matches.

Hello Islay ...... I would say there is a lot of good sense in your post, and I certainly agree with your comment ....."Gone are the days when fans turned out, no matter the weather to attend football matches"        As you also say, a bit more imagination and creativity would not go wrong

These days it is essential to be ahead of the game as more and more companies, especially in the family entertainment business, are after customer's money ...........Even the supermarkets are in on-going competition !!

DFC, like any football Club, must be on the ball to give VFM. which many fans may feel they are doing, under the present financial circumstances.

My biggest fear is DFC may be losing future, potential, young, fans if the product is not what they like, for the money they are putting out.

Scottish football is not value for money. It costs far too much to watch a pretty low standard of football. The problem is if prices are dropped does there could be a knock on effect in the standard of player so the quality will drop.

For me summer fitba, getting a pint at the game, much better catering, opening the bookies back up, season books with limited games, cup games included in full seasons, standing areas. These are a few ideas that would maybe attract more fans and hold on to them
