Injuries To Blame For Dundee’S Loss At Ross County

Dundee manager Paul Hartley blamed the ever-growing list of injuries at the club for the poor performance at Ross County on Saturday.

The Dark Blues lost Paul McGowan to a training-ground injury on the eve of the match and had David Clarkson missing due to a virus. To add to that, top scorer Greg Stewart limped off before half-time in Dingwall and was joined in the dressing-room by Kevin Thomson on the hour mark, with the club captain having started despite also suffering from a virus.

The Highland side recorded their third win in three games as Jamie Reckord tapped in on 66 minutes to give the Staggies a 1-0 win.

“It was a scrappy game of football, I didn’t think there was a lot of quality in it. I thought they had the better chances. We didn’t play well at all,†said Paul. “It wasn’t a good performance but we had to patch up our team. Our squad’s really thin and stretched just now. We were eight unbeaten and wanted to keep that going. We’ve got to give our players credit for the past eight games but this is such a disappointment.

“We’ve got a spell now where we’re off for a couple of weeks and we’ve got to just try to get the players back. We’ve just had far too many injuries and they took their toll on Saturday.â€

One positive performance for the Dark Blues was another top display from goalkeeper Scott Bain, making a number of important saves, including a top-class stop from a Jackson Irvine shot, pushing the ball onto the post.

“Scott Bain had two fantastic saves and I think he kept the score down,†added the manager. “We know Scott’s been doing that for the past few months, we know how good he is, and the scoreline could have been worse if it wasn’t for Scott.â€

Ross County midfielder Jackson Irvine is happy with the way things have gone at the club in recent weeks.

The victory over Dundee on Saturday was their third on the trot — the first time they have achieved such a feat for over two years. Irvine said: “It was a fantastic result, especially when the other teams around about us picked up points as well. That made it even more important.

“But we are just concentrating on ourselves, bringing out positive performances every week and picking up points. It definitely felt as if we were the dominant team, I’m not sure if Dundee had a shot on target. Their goalkeeper was fabulous. He made some great saves.â€
