Buy Back Dens..at What Cost To Team?

Whilst it would be great to get Dens back under ownership I think we have to go with Mr Colvin and cos belief that they are happy with the lease agreement as it is.

Whilst been critical of some aspects I think that we need to remember that this is our first proper year in SPL in decade and we simply cannot afford to let investment in first team drop just so we can change to get name on the door.

Our budget for this year was a healthy competitive one, clubs like St.Mirren and Motherwell both have had boardroom uncertainty & takeover and there budgets suffered and now they find themselves facing the dreaded drop which will cost approx 750k min in dropped revenue per year

I would hate to send the message to the BOD that we would like to drop our playing budget by X hundred thousand per year to buy a 100 year old building that we are renting with no threat.

Yes it would be nice to have both but all you have bought is a depreciating 'asset'

Every spare penny should be spent on SPL consolidation for next 3 years minimum.

The better the playing contract you can offer sought after players then the more chance you have of signing a Bain or Stewart or dare I say an Andy Robertson and yes maybe then you can look at it again if silly money came in.

Another arguement is that by leasing only we give ourselves the option of moving should it make economical sense at some point.

Bigger clubs in England and Europe with richer history than us have moved and flourished.

Let's keep an open mind and not get too focused on the name on a bit of paper.

The terms are favourable so let's not get lost on what matters and indeed what generates income a winning Dundee FC team playing in the top flight

Can't see why they are mutually exclusive ?

Good team on the park this year.

Fundraising from fans for buy back wouldn't be taking money out the club

The revenue stream proposed for the buy back doesn't currently exist so will have no effect on the team and will cost the club nothing.

The problem here is that the club wants any potential revenue from fans to be earmarked for operational costs. If anyone puts their cash into the club to help with operational costs they may as well burn it because they aint ever going to see a penny back and will never know how it's been used.

If it's collected in a controlled manner whereby each contributor knows their contribution is going to be accrued toward the buy back of the stadium then at least you know where it is. Ultimately if the buy back doesn't come off each contributor also knows they have the option of having that contribution returned to them in full or putting it directly back in to help the club in some specific way e.g. youth development.

I just can't see why anyone would think the above could in any way be detrimental to the team on the field.

This is how I feel about it, guess work on my part but I would imagine that any money that the club lose would be minimal, I'm thinking half time draw money and it might be a case that DFCSS lose some of their 'normal' money like Gold membership to it (with a slight knock on loss to the club) but because this is something that the majority of those who responded to the Society survey wanted it suggest (to me anyway) that a dedicated 'buy back Dens' fund would generate new money because its such a popular and emotive cause.

I'm with Deeranged in thinking that the Board see a potential several thousand pound a month as something that would take the strain off their pockets and while I can understand that, they've set the budget etc themselves. I've posted this elsewhere but if they have a vision that they would like us to chip in for they really need to sell it to us. If another organisation wants to buy Dens from JB then I can understand their concern but its not really their business.

The debate about whether its worth buying is a different issue and one that needs to be seriously looked at, if we were to move away from Dens then we would still need to find somewhere and for me I'd rather own than rent unless it was extremely generous terms and we may need to invest in infrastructure at another site so a 'war chest' started now for sometime in the future could come in very useful wherever we end up calling home. Remember, FPS are basically the DFC arm of an investment company so may well have different concerns from us fans, they might not care what happens with Dundee football club in 10 years, they might be gone by then and we still won't own Dens (or wherever) and it will be even more run down. Not saying this is a definite but just pointing out their possibly different agenda.

Without being critical of your opening post Derry Family, I think Dayster in his post above, addresses your concerns.
