Dundee Friendly With English Premier League Side Possible

Dundee are in negotiations to secure another summer glamour friendly.

The Tele understands the club are close to agreeing a deal to play an as yet unnamed English Premier League outfit in pre-season. The match, most likely in early August, will involve the top flight side sending a side to Dens Park to take on Paul Hartley’s men.

It would be a similar situation to last summer, when English champions Manchester City were the visitors.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men sent up a squad containing stars Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, Aleksander Kolorov, Stevan Jovetic, Javi Garcia, Micah Richards, Samir Nasri, Fernando, Scott Sinclair, Willy Caballero and Jack Rodwell. Also involved that day, a 2-0 victory for the Dark Blues courtesy of Gary Harkins and Luka Tankulic, were Celtic loan signings John Guidetti and Jason Denayer.

It’s understood the match is close to being finalised but the announcement of the club’s identity could be held off until the end of the current Scottish campaign in May. Work is also underway to sure up arrangements for the rest of the club’s summer schedule.

A training camp abroad is again being considered, with Hungary once more on a list of possible destinations, while a few matches south of the border are also likely to be included. The club are wary of announcing anything too soon as these kind of negotiations can be delicate.

Last summer the club were forced to cancel plans for a second high-profile home friendly at the last minute when the date for the League Cup first round fixture against Peterhead was announced. Sam Allardyce’s West Ham were pencilled in for a match at Dens Park that day.

Meanwhile, a West Bromwich Albion scout was in the stands as Dundee’s development side beat Hamilton. A young side, absent of first team men due to the club’s training camp in England, won 3-1 at New Douglas Park.

A Lee Cameron brace and one from Calvin Colquhoun ensurued all three points.
