Fernando passed away this morning after a long battle with MND/ALS

Thoughts go to his family. Utterly horrific illness. Bumped into him a couple of years ago in Glasgow airport. What a nice guy, and he had time for everyone who approached him even although he was wheelchair bound by then. RIP

A sad ending for someone so young, and so soon after his playing career....absolutely devastating disease, robbing sufferers of so much. Seeing him at Ibrox & on a documentary a few years ago was shocking, to see the extent of what it had done to a pro sportsman in such a short time.

I though Neil Lennon's wee video tribute to him was great, quite emotional too....a great competitor & player, a leader who matured very quickly in his time at Ibrox. A player who gave 100% to all his clubs, and to fighting the disease. He managed to use his popularity here & in the Netherlands to do a lot to promote the MND cause.
