Dundee Scouts

Recommended Posts

I go to watch my nephew play U10's on a Sunday.Utd scouts are regularly seen but never Dundee scouts.

Yesterday a laddie was playing for one of the Broughty teams,Ferry Athletic I think, who was absolutely outstanding.Playing at centre half he totally strolled the game & all the parents were raving about him, especially after he brought the ball down and ran the length of the park beating player after player before slotting past the keeper.Tall, quick and 2 footed he was like a young Alan Hansen. He's also a Dee.

The Utd scout watched pretty much the whole game before chatting to the teams manager.I've no idea if that young laddie is signed to a Pro team or not but there were other good young laddies playing, although he was the pick of the bunch.

Why are our guys not out watching games and picking up these players?.

That young lad seems to be something special Rev'

And it really hurts me to think lads like him, and probably many more, are being missed out on by our Club, and then possibly being picked up by scouts from "the ither side" ....... it hurts even mair when I think he might be somebody from a guid, loyal DFC, supporting family.

Wonder just how good DFC's local coaching network is ...... I cannae believe it wid be that dififcult, or costly, to organise a set-up that made sure we had representatives at as many games as possible. At best we jist might pick up o a possible future star ...... and at worst a DFC presence, wid reinforce a potential young fan base for the future.

It may be Oor Club is getting awe this soarted oot (or unbeknown to maist fans) something is already in place.

Over to DFC or ither fans ....... Whit's happening ?       Good topic for discussion Rev.

Both Dundee and Utd watch all the under age groups regularly on Sundays. Last season, Dundee contacted the coach of my lads under 10 team and came along to 3 games on the bounce. Between this and the 20/20 coaching that goes on very few talented boys slip through. Truth is that too many boys are picked up and then discarded.

Sore one.

I am lead to believe the said player was at Dundee FC training but is now at UTD and has been playing a year up for them.

I dont think it is a case of not bringing in local talent to Dundee FC, its a case of keeping them when UTD come calling.

Obviously UTD sell threselves better to parents and players when they are jumping ship from Dundee to UTD.

Remember Gerry Creaney gave a number of young players who were training at both Dundee and UTD the ultimatum of one or the other, maybe he was one of them.

Utd now have their own training facilities at Gussie, play their matches at St Andrews or Gussie, have better coaches and a vision for these players.  Dundee dont own their own training facilities, play their games on ploughed fields at Riverside, have poor coaches and have no path for youth players.

Who would you choose if your son had the option?

Mate, you're out of line presenting facts here. Some folk just don't want to hear it.

Also agree with atillo here, most kids are put into these teams just to make the numbers up

Problem we have is parents thinking there kids will be pro footballers cause there playing for dundee under 11s when the reality is they will be playing junior football or less...

The example of comparing a ten yr old to alan hansen highlights this....

Craig wighton is the best young player to come out this city in 20 yrs yet even he is struggling a bit with the demands of professional football, we have to let kids develop with no pressure and definitely not silly comparisons.
