Forum Tips And Tricks

Question

Posted

Greetings Fellow Dee's,

I would just firstly like to thank you all for joining us on the forum, nice to have you and hope you enjoy your stay here.

I know many of you are not familiar with this forum software and are still trying to get your head around what you can do with it. I think you will find that it has a little something for everyone and while it's main purpose of click and post is easy enough, there are some feature that might not be so apparent at first glance.

1. Personal Message Centre:

You can send messages to other users within the forum, even if they're offline. They will get an email from our server telling them they have an email sent by you. If you look at the top of the forum, you will notice an open envelope, this is your key to getting into the message system.

Just treat this like you would your email client. You can create your own folders to store your messages. Nice to know if you're the tidy little bug.

Currently you can store 50 messages, this will be increased to 100. You can store messages important to yourself without the fear of them being deleted.

You can invite other members of the community into your conversation, either when creating or replying to a message.

If you don't like the message system you can disable it, however I suggest against that as the system widely uses this for system messages by moderators and administrators.

However, if you don't want to receive messages from certain users, you can use the ignore user features.

2. Friends:

Yes, if you have real life friends or people you know on the forum, why not invite them onto your friends list. You will get a notice when they come visiting the forum. This makes it much easier keeping in touch and have quick conversations via messenger.  You can change some options for this in your control panel.

3. Notifications:

This forum has extensive notification capabilities and you can configure these to your requirements.

Notifications can come from when someone sends you a message, someone else replies to a topic you started or joined. You can even follow a whole forum and get notified when someone starts a new or posts to a topic.

This way you will never miss another thing happening at the darkblues.

4. Mentions:

If you mention someone in one of your post, why not let them know you have. just use @ before their forum username and they will receive a message that you have mentioned them in one of your posts.

5. Youtube:

If you want to add youtube videos into you post, couldn't be simpler. Just copy and paste the url from Youtube into the post you're writing, post and the system will take care of everything else for you.

6. User Control Panel:

This is probably the second more useful and powerful area of this forum. The Control Panel lets you set, edit and modify the way your share information about yourself to others.

If you are unsure about how to use this area, refer to the Help centre. (It's on one of the blue tabs at the forum navigation).

I will add more items as I come across them, or if you know of anything about the forum that could help others, please feel free to post them.

No your not missing anything at all. The text editor on the phone is pretty simple, just use the smiley buttons/keys from your phone and that should work within the forum.

Sorry, I have just found out that smileys from mobile/tablet do not work by default. I will look into this and see if we can find a workaround for this.

Hi 'tecky' types, I've just tried to post a link in the soundtracks thread and I don't know how to 'save' the link. Having read the OP of this thread I think   that's what I need to do. Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by save it?

If this is a link to an external website, just copy the link and paste it in the editor window and then post.
