Ongoing Fundraising

Recommended Posts

During the Administration season of 2010-11 Dundee FC Supporters Clubs were queuing up at halftime to hand over fundraising cheques to the board of DFCSS but since then hardly any cheques have been handed over by the various supporters clubs.

I know that several supporters clubs sponsor players each season but unless you purchase a club programme you do not know who these clubs are.

Therefore I would suggest that at the beginning of each season there is an organised photo call where representatives of the various supporters clubs, groups of people and individuals who sponsor the players showing them handing over their cheques.

The photographs would then be published on the club website for all to see.

There might even be a spin-off from this as other supporters clubs and fans may decide to sponsor players.

Could make it like a team group photo with all the Supporter Club's reps in Dee strips of their choice from various eras.

Rubbish idea IMO. I sponsor a player and have no wish to get my picture taken handing anyone a cheque.

I don't even have a cheque book.

Deeranged, this particular idea might be not to your liking but there is a great deal to be said for helping to promote supporters clubs. Could this site take an active role in promoting the supporters clubs? Showing what they are doing, through player sponsorship is a not unreasonable suggestion.

It was, as you point out, only my opinion.

Supporters clubs have representatives that can do this sort of thinking for them surely?

Usually the cheque hand overs are for donations, player sponsorship isn't a donation and cheque hand over photos have never, to the best of my knowledge, been part of the package.

The photo opportunities for player sponsorship come at the sponsors' dinner.

Deeranged.

Nobody is forcing you to have your picture taken handing over your cheque for your player sponsorship.

I think that the more publicity we have the better.

In my opinion the Capital Dark Blues have the correct idea for donating funds to Dundee Football Club. They hand over their money in exchange for shares in Dundee Football Club Prior to the vote whether to accept the money from the Yanks and DFCSS give up their majority shareholding they held £7,500 worth of shares.

Donating money to the club isn't the same as purchasing shares though.

Asking for publicity for buying shares just doesn't sit right with me.

Capital Dark Blues are the only Dundee supporters club who hold shares in Dundee Football Club.

If you read my original post you will see that my suggestion for a photocall was for supporters club, groups and individuals donating money to club for player sponsorship.

Personally speaking I think that the various supporter clubs should be seriously thinking about increasing their fundraising if only to put their donations into a reserve fund for future projects such as a purpose built training centre.

That's what I said about a rainy day fund.

Thanks Deeranged, see where you are coming from, only read the "rubbish idea" in your original comment. I should have known there would be more to it. Think there's something to be said for the supporters' clubs raising money, and Islay's idea that they should get maximum publicity to encourage others.

If the money doesn't go to DFC to help pay for expenses then there's a danger that holding on to the money becomes an end in itself. I'm involved with a couple of "supporting" organisations, nothing to do with football, and they have in their constitution that they need to hand over all funds at the end of each financial year, subject to retaining a small amount to fund the operation for the coming year.

Buying shares each year in return for the money they hand over seems to be a good way of supporting DFC and making the supporters feel more involved, but it doesn't do anything to build money for a rainy day.
