Heard Dick Campbell on the radio saying he likes to keep it simple and everyone knows their job.

On evidence of our league campaign so far I'm not sure everyone in our team knows their job.

Playing players out of position or trying to fit them to a system the are not comfortable with is the reason we are where we are.

You don't need fancy formations or tactics to get the best out of players.

We have a squad that should be doing better but still really don't look comfortable or assertive during games.

Morton away, Thistle at home, Ayr away, Alloa away and Morton at home we've really dominated the games and created plenty of clear cut chances in comparison with the opposition. I lost my head a bit and can't phantom what happened V Thistle but fair play to the team, they got back on the pitch and picked up a few decent results and recovered immediately. Maybe not the nicest wins but any neutral would have said we were the more dominant team, you don't often coast through games, we've never done it in title winning years before.

Every side in the league plays players not in their natural position, that's just football. Arbroath probably have around 3 or 4 players playing in their starting line-up who were not natural in those roles seasons ago, someone like Bobby Linn was strictly a centre forward but was adapted to play on the flanks so teams could accommodate him. Similarish with their left back who was a centre back. We saw it a tad on Friday with Appere, he's a striker who has been playing on the left flank. Look at every single team in the league and I guarantee you that there is someone who is filling a role that they could be defined as 'out of position', we're probably lower down on the league than most!

It's deffo fair to discuss tactics etc but I feel like this out of position stuff is used as an unfair stick to beat the manager with. Scottish Football is full of too many 'natural 10s' who contribute very little on the actual game and end up being hard done by as they fail to realise their potential. Good teams have players who get on with it and contribute to every stage of play.

I think if we come back from this and continue the sort of form we had before this game consistently, we're doing OK and maybe shouldn't be too harsh.

I don't want to come across as being harsh on the team and agree that probably most teams do have the same situation.

It just looked to me, for example, Andrew Nelson is not looking comfortable at all and maybe a more familiar role in a two up front with midfielders who want to take the game forward a bit more or quicker at least would benefit us.

The slow build up play, all the time, is easy for opposition teams to just sit in and wait. Need to mix it up a lot more and be more quick and direct and run at defences to commit them to making decision.

Good post Harry.

I thought Appere (As good a young player as he is) was stinking on Friday and Kerr did a decent job on him.

Equally, Nelson was poor on the left for us. The only 2 instances i can think where playing a striker out wide has worked well for us is Leigh Griffiths and Greg Stewart, both of whom were much better than anything we currently have.
