IF Gordon Strachan wants to give us Dees a parting memory, then for the Love of All Things Dark Blue, TELL Nelms You will take over for 1 and a half seasons, put McPake in the dugout beside you and TEACH him everything you have LEARNED about football management.

And what had Gordon Strachan learned in football management?

To be a snarky smug wee sh**e and that if you've got a budget that's the equal of the rest of the league put together then you might win some trophies?

The guy is hardly Pep and it's years since he did anything of note.

No thanks. I think that we need a  complete break from ex Dees( excluding  maybe Barry Smith as short term caretaker) . With respect, I cannot see J Mc P  feeling easy in that situation with Strachan  . But every suggestion is welcome  until we change manager at Dens.

Appreciate your opinion BB

However I severely doubt GS learned Nothing under some Excellent managers during his playing career. Obviously neither you or me know what that may be and that’s the Joy of sharing our opinions.

Pep seems a bit of a Blue Herring ... I’m Thinking GS is Vastly Superior to J McP in terms of running a well funded Scottish Championship Team.

Strachan has been nothing but a distraction since he came back to Dens.

What exactly is he doing? We were told of some big project and all we've seen so far are a few coaches for the youth team.

Calls for him to take on the first team have been pretty steady since he arrived but he's stated more than once that he has no interest in management anymore. Even of he did, what would his motivation be to take over a mid-table championship side? If that was his motivation for being at Dundee then he'd have gotten the job before McPake was appointed.

I'll concede that he's managed at a much higher level than basically any Dundee manager, but he was more a steady than spectacular presence at Coventry (who he eventually got relegated), before doing at decent job at Southampton, admittedly. A performing monkey could win trophies at Celtic. Since then it's been a disastrous spell in charge of Middlesborough and then a so-so spell in charge at Scotland where his propensity for self love verged on the bizarre and explained why the likes of Alex Ferguson couldn't stand the guy.

Could he do a better job than McPake? In fairness, he could hardly do a worse job at the moment. However, the likelihood of him being the next DFC manager are slim to none and if anything, it feels like his presence has been anything but a stabilising factor.

Hello PB

It’s just ME amusing myself changing the traditional Red Herring to a Dee based Blue Herring 🙃

Hello BB

A very fair opinion.

Do you have a name or 2 who you would like to see in charge at Dens ?

I’m not chasing for J McP to be punted, we would all Love him or any other Dee Manager to be doing a better job than is currently being done.

I am really concerned though that J McP does not appear to be making progress as a manager. He has had a decent amount of games to show steady wee improvements, I am just not seeing that.

Hello expert

Appreciate your opinion, would be interesting to see if Barry had skilled up as a Manager, given the current state of unrest amongst us fans though I think we need a poll to gauge the forum’s opinion on that !

If McPake stays in post and turns it round no one will be happier than me. I loved the way the guy played the game. He's given us some excellent, recent, moments as a player and clearly loves the club. Also, from my limited interaction with him on social media before he became manager, he's a really decent, family guy with his heart in the right place.

What concerns me is that since the start of the season we actually seem to be going backwards and the constant chopping and changing in formation and personal just hasn't felt like it's coming from a guy who has really known what he's doing. For me Nelms is a loyal to a fault (I know we've been through a lot of managers since he arrived but that says a lot about his choices) in a way where most can see that it's not working long before the change is made. What worries me is how low we'd need to sink before a change was made and would it leave whoever picks up the pieces with enough time to make a difference?

As for managerial suggestions? In truth I'm not interested enough in the wider game these days to even know who is managing who anymore, or who is out of work, so that's not something I can do.

My mantra all season has been let's give McPake time. I really want a guy in place for at least three seasons but the signs are that I've been saying that about someone who isn't ready for the job he was offered and I'm scared where that may lead. Who'd be a football manager? Or a club's CEO for that matter?

This is absolutely the worry. I also agree about the delay which is in my opinion what got us relegated. Nelms gave McCann way to much time, or put another way, dithered for far too long. We are getting worse. The system doesn't work, the players feel that  and their confidence is absolutely shot. McPake should be a coach not a manager.  Learning his trade. The pressure that he is under will not develop him, more likely, it will ruin him. I have serious and genuine doubts about John Nelms' football judgement, specifically when he has to decide. His gamble with McCann instead of Ross was just so very wrong, and because he did it again with McPake, he looks stupid. I fear that he wont back down because he cant, probably both for financial and ego reasons. It's a real mess and it will kill gates, an indication being the travelling support at Gayfield yesterday.
