Dundee Midfielder Mcalister’S Operation Woe

Dundee’s Jim McAlister is facing a spell on the sidelines after undergoing a hernia op.

McAlister, an almost ever-present in the Dark Blues line-up this season, will almost certainly be missing for the visit of Aberdeen a week on Monday. Recovery time for the procedure is three weeks,

But the fact he only went in for the op last week, while the rest of the squad was off training at a camp in Cheshire, means he will not even have begun training by that point. Boss Paul Hartley admits it is a blow for his top-six-chasing side, who have had a torrid time with injuries since the turn of the year.

The gaffer said: “Things aren’t really getting any better. McAlister has had to have a hernia op. It is just wear and tear he has been playing with for a while. It’s a quick recovery, maybe about three weeks. We have had him in with a top surgeon down south.â€

Elsewhere on the injury front, Gary Irvine has resumed training, although Greg Stewart faces a race against time to be fit for the Dons clash. He took a heavy knock on his calf in the club’s defeat at Ross County last time out and has failed to kick a ball in training since.

“Greg is still carrying that knock from the last game,†said Paul. Hopefully, that will clear up over the next week. Gary is back but Luka (Tankulic) and Gary (Harkins) are doubts.â€
