Stevie Campbell

Recommended Posts

Another meltdown taking place within the unwashed support due to a rumour that Stevie Campbell has not been offered a new contract at the Brick.

Someone was mentioning this to me the other week and also said he may be being targeted for our youth set up.

Mixed feelings about this if it turns out to be true.... :-/

Quite possibly the most over rated youth coach in this city. Hung onto the coat tails that Levein and Cathro put in place at the DABS. Can't think of one player he himself has developed. It's the DABs scouting system pinching players from other clubs that has been successful for them. I hope this turncoat gets no place near our club, he is poisonous.

I assume you know Stevie personally then?? Last time I spoke to him he was happy that we're now on a firm footing off the park and said what he'd seen of our fledgling youth set-up was impressive. Known Stevie a long time and poisonous is certainly not a word I'd use to describe him, quite the opposite actually. If folk knew exactly what went on with him during the 1st admin, I'm sure they'd see things in a different light. Leave the personal abuse to that shower across the road, not the Dee way!!

In fact, it's believed that United's youth system revival come from Brewster arriving at the club and then appointing Campbell. Cathro was pretty young and worked as part of a team with the other United coaches. It's impossible to pin it on individuals (I think all youth coaches in Scottish Football are 'highly rated') but he's obviously doing something right if he's been coaching a team for years and witnessed many players progress.

True but their youth system has also served them well. In his time there he has seen (with year of professional entry):

  • David Goodwillie (£2 million) - 2006
  • Keith Watson - 2006
  • Ryan Dow - 2007
  • Johnny Russell (£750k) - 2007
  • Stuart Armstrong - 2009 (was sort of nicked from Inverness but did spend a year in the development side)
  • Ryan Gauld (£3 million) - 2012
  • John Souttar - 2012

Obviously, some have done better than others and he'll have had less influence on some than others. I think loads of clubs would still kill for that sort of intake though.

If he knows what was done by Levein and Cathro and can operate the system effectively why not give him a chance to help us? Agree that part of the success of our neighbours coaching system was the approach that you describe but surely part of the decision process to join them would have involved an assessment of the coaching staff who would be looking after them.coaching is the part of the job that he deals with, scouting for players is a different job, I would have thought.

I don't know anything abot the man Ricky, and whether if the rumour is true, he would be an asset to DFC, or not .....But it appears you do.

Whatever, I like your style of post :)

I've seen his antics during and after Derby defeats, poisonous. Personally hope he is binned by the DABS and gets no where near a football club again.

Edited post as I was to harsh on Ricky
