Paul Hartley is struggling to see the positive side of Dundee’s three week stretch without a game.

While it may well have given his ailing squad some much-needed rest, the Dark Blues boss admits there is a certain level of frustration within his ranks. Paul says it has been a difficult few weeks at the club, keeping players motivated.

But he’s over the moon to have the prospect of a game on the horizon, even if it is still a week away.

“It’s been tough,†said Paul, whose side take on Aberdeen at Dens Park next Saturday. “Your normal preparation changes. A normal working week has a game at the end of it — we haven’t had that for the last few weeks. We have had to try to keep the players motivated but we have also had to mix the training up and find a balance. Some resting has been required but now it’s about ramping it up ahead of the Aberdeen game.â€

Injuries have gone hand in hand with Dundee this season. Paul is hopeful there might be some light at the end of the tunnel.

“It’s just been injury after injury in games,†he said. “We didn’t want the break; players want to play on a Saturday. On the other hand, we’re hopeful we will have a stronger squad because of it. We still don’t know how the squad will pan out for the match yet. We will have to wait and see.â€
