I have not seen many games lately owing to circumstances that removed me to a place where I can't get to games. Does anybody feel the way I do, and that is, since Hemmings and Dorrans have been brought in we seem to be worse than we were. I go back to the Ayr game we won 1-0, and in that game we were a tight- knit unit. They had the better of the first half, but our defence coped with what they threw at us. We put together a concerted spell of pressure at the start of the second-half and you knew a goal was coming. Nelson duly obliged with a good header. We saw out the rest of the game comfortably. Johnson was up front in the first half and looked a threat. Since Hemmings and Dorrans have come in there seems to be no cohesion to our game. Neither have been outstanding and I am as glad as anybody that Dorrans has signed a long-term deal, but they have both yet to step up to the plate, and I don't think they are helping the rest of the team. Byrne is another disappointment. If these players would get the finger out and play to their capabilities we would have a cracking side. People say that openings are not being carved out for Hemmings, but he has not looked to me like the Hemmings who was scoring for fun in his first spell. He just does not look a threat. Dorrans has never dominated a game since he came to us. His form has been patchy at best. I am not trying to excuse MacPake here, but even he must be disappointed at what he is getting from these players. If they would play to the level they are capable of, then we would have no worries.

I agree that we're not getting the best of them but that's part of a bigger issue with how we've been playing. Hemmings will score goals if we create chances for him, he's hardly had a sniff despite working hard. He is having to drop deep as we aren't creating chances for him. He should be in and around the penalty box giving defenders something to worry about and leaving the creativity down to Dorrans, MCDaid, Crankshaw etc.

We are far to slow going from front to back and are very easy to play against. We need to be more direct and have a clear game plan of how to create chances. Attacking full backs who can help us double up in wide areas and get balls into the box and a winger (Crankshaw) who can get defenders on the back foot and get balls in to the box along with McDaid will hopefully help. Dorrans in the hole pulling the strings and playing others in behind or shooting from distance would mean we are a threat all across the front line and much harder to defend against,

There’s no way we are weaker with Hemmings and Dorrans.

System needs to be found to compliment our good players-we haven’t done that yet.

Hemmings work rate is still up there, get the correct service and he will score

I’d love to see Dorrans play just behind Hemmings instead of Dorrans just in front of the back 4. Reckon they’d be on the same wavelength

When hemmings has his golden spell for us he was up on his own but never isolated like he has been this season, he had Stewart right up there with him in a free role almost in the hole, interchanging at times, also harkins helped a lot too with his creativity.

If we could push dorrans up to where he can hurt the opposition as a number 10 maybe and have crankshaw and mcdaid on either wing, we could be a real threat on the counter with pace and also in possession with creative experience in dorrans to finally reward hemmings’ hard graft that he’s been putting in.

Coming deep for the ball and trying to win headers against 6ft plus centre backs just isn’t his style I’m afraid, the goals he used to score were from well timed runs in behind and passes timed perfectly from either Stewart or harkins etc.. we’ve got to start utilising his strengths properly and not playing in a system that downplays our capabilities.

Most of the time that Hemmings gets the ball at his feet without his back to the goal he looks very dangerous imo.  As has been said above, our problem is that we are starving him of decent ball.  Taking too long to get the ball forward and too many players unwilling to take any sort of gamble in getting forward or get the ball forward.

Thanks for these comments, they have been most enlightening. Maybe getting Dorrans further forward would help because he can score spectacular goals as we all know. There is no doubt that we need to get the ball forward much quicker, but I thought Dorrans would help with that aspect of our game. Yet I have to come back to my original point, are we too reliant on both now that they are in the side, to the extent that there is little or no structure to our play of late, for example against Dunfermline. Even when results were going against us there seemed to be a structure there. I take the point that the new players might make a difference, but to not know your best team at this stage of the season is worrying. The injuries to Ness has not helped I think.

So disappointed in Dorrans again today when they went to 10 men - why did he drop back again , he needed to get closer to Hemmings and try to create something

I am afraid sometimes that Dorrans is past his best. He seems no longer to dominate the midfield or play killer passes to open up opposition defences. Maybe he has to adjust to the tight marking in the Championship. At least Hemmings got a goal today, so let's hope he continues in this vein. Byrne apparently had a good game today. We need far more from these players than we have been getting so far.
