I've hardly been McPake's biggest cheerleader this season but both of these comments are incredibly harsh.

Me too but credit where it’s due- our defence was dire and he seems to have improved that part of the team.

The problem I have is everyone seems to think a draw away to Ayr is a good result, what chance do we have have to get promoted

The problem is Barkblue is we are 21 points from top just above Arbroath just about sums it up for me

What I don't understand is Berra seems to have helped our defence but Dorrans doesn't seem to be having the same beneficial effect on our midfield. Berra has turned almost  unselectable Forster and Meekings into part of a solid defence.Wasn't at the game but reading the comments mid field seemed to be missing.

I think an away draw to Ayr United is an OK result. Not good, but acceptable-ish. We should all know how difficult it is getting out of this league. We watched it previously for season after season and for most of those years we had a budget far in excess of the teams round about us too.

There's no denying we started poorly. However, I think we have picked up considerably since the transfer window and there are one or two signs of improvement. The damage in the league was done early and there's no denying that a lot of that was down to the manager. However, for example, the dropped points, for me, on Tuesday was down to the players. If we stick an early chance away in that game we might have won by a cricket score.

Maybe the difference is that I never thought we'd be in with a shout of winning the league. The squad McPake inherited was non-existent and he's has to build not just an area of the team, or a starting 11 but an entire first team squad. That was never going to happen overnight.

As for how far we are behind the dabs, yes, that hurts but it is seriously clouding folk's judgements towards this season and if, as I expect, we fail to get promoted, I honestly look forward to them not being a factor in how we judge next season.

Because (and I should whisper this...) Dorrans hasn't been nearly as good as some folk say he has.

So far Berra has.

I work on the basis that if players go missing or in other words contribute nothing, you end up with only 8 or 9 outfield players.  When that happens you usually get humped but we didn't today.  Some folk might not have played as well as expectations which is a different thing imo.

We had no midfield today apart from Dorrans. I have to say that after his good game last Tuesday, Byrne decided to be a ghost and I only remember touching the ball once (which was a header he won).

McGhee should not have been playing in Midfield at all.

I normally don't like playing youngsters all the time, but I would have Robertson over McGhee (Can't blame him) and Byrne.
