I think the SPFL should strongly consider copying the DFB's potential approach to a possible early season cancellation...

It should be 2 leagues of 16/18 teams, and this is long over due in my opinion. Play, one another twice, once at home and away and this would give other teams the chance to win points instead of Celtic

I would think the best way to mitigate losses would be a complete restructure to get the proper clubs back at the top level. Void this season then start from scratch going back to the structures

Give yenited SFA!

That's exactly the way it should be is the SPFL and SFA decide to stop the season after this weekend.

That would leave 6 teams in the Championship....so would they 'need to' repeat this with 4 up from Div.1, 4 up from Div.2, and 2 @ 2 teams up from highland/Lowland leagues?

The only real difference would be in the SPL, with 16 teams.....and an ideal opportunity to 'try out' what many managers & fans wanted years ago, two games against each team?

Would be an interesting 'trial period'.....but if they then wanted to return to 12/10/10/10, oh that would be fraught with trouble.

4 relegated from SPL, no-one promoted....4 relegated from Championship, 4 from Div.1, 4 from Div.2.....and no promotion....fun & games!

It's a free pass to establish 16 team Premiership which is already an extremely popular idea, and with the addition of extra non-league teams from the West Region Juniors this upcoming season, there would be plenty to fill in the gaps, with extra promotions being done in every division. It's possible is all I'm saying...

This really would be an ideal opportunity to try something new - but the opportunity will likely be missed and some kind of half-arsed solution provided.  Let's be honest, the impact on the Old Firm will be the only consideration and the rest of us can suck it.

Unfortunately its not just the OF that have traditionally been against increasing the league. More teams in the SPL means the cash pot has to get split more ways so some of the more 'established' SPL sides haven't been keen in the past. Hearts might have changed their stance right enough. 🤣

Funnily enough, the last time any change was on the table was potentially in the 'Team 12' season when it was suggested by the SFA/SPL that the league could be increased to 14 then 16 IF Sevco got parachuted into the Championship. It kind of tells you how likely any changes to the league structure are. 😒

In all honesty, I don't really think many chairman of other clubs would be pushing it strongly either. Anything tweaking the structure involves the TV deal being renegotiated and the companies have made it clear in the past that the number of OF games will drive any deal. I just can't see how you could get everyone on board with something that is going to reduce the prize pot and number of games (unless controversial split).

Personally, I think the restructure in 2013 with finances (the difference in what second tier teams get now is massive) and the play off place was a brilliant bit of progress. I think asking for two productive changes a decade would be unlikely!

Why they promoting 4 teams? 2 surely. 18 teams in Bundesliga.

Each team currently plays 34 games, finish it after this weekend and they'll all have played 26.

Expand to 22 teams next season gives 42 games each and makes up the shortfall.

You are quite right - I wasn't really thinking so much about restructuring per se though, more about what will be decided ref. promotion and relegation.  It doesn't affect Celtic and Rangers so how much thought will go into emergency measures I don't know.  That said, the SPFL is made up of member clubs so maybe it will work itself out to the best interests of all concerned.  Maybe!

Ahhhh... Thanks. Very swift, forward thinking by them. No messing. Here, lot of anal behaviour, hand wringing, dominated by OF concerns. I mean, one up from Div 1 for so many years was a scandal. We should have sued the b*****ds!

I guessed they maybe have a playoff of some sort, and deciding to promote the teams in those playoff places, as there's no other 'fair' way to decide.

If that happened here, I guess only Dunfermline would be seriously pi**ed off if the current top 4 were promoted.....though Arbroath & Morton are only 1 point behind Dunfermline.

If UEFA/FIFA delay Euro 2020 for a year, and the same with any other continents' tournaments, it's feasible for the current leagues to restart in May & play to a finish.....with just a short break & slight delay to next season, maybe League Cup pushed back, or cancelled for a season. All guesswork, several other possibilities exist.
