Yes.I think the Board of the SPFL will decide.I do not think there is any provision for 'averaging 'points as Neil lennon has suggested and the remark he makes that Dundee United should be promoted without giving consideraion to how relegation should be decided demonstrates how little real thought was given to that remark. The 16 team League is a way of protecting the reasonable hopes and expectations of employees of most if not all Clubs.No-one gets relegated and 6 get promoted-8 if you include 2 from the Pyramid system If a decision is made early it allows Clubs to sell advance Season Tickets and deal with player contracts for the new season.Hopefully in August but possibly later.

Normally what Celtic want Celtic get.............. Indeed. But for once, the favourites of our sectarian ScotGov, just got thwarted by the usually complicit SPFL. Incredible times. Parcbara Posted 13 March 2020 Report Share Posted 13 March 2020 Just listening to the BBC radio panel about finishing this season then going right into next season. What about contracts? Players who have signed pre-contracts, players who might want to move if their team gets relegated or not promoted. How does that pan out? How does the team losing any such player sort the gap out if they start right away into another season without a layoff? That is a recipe for disaster. As for Lennon's suggestion, no surprise there. Average points is a poorly thought out solution. Games don't go the way they might be expected to. That's what makes it interesting. Changing contracts is not easy and most often a minefield. There is no doubt that this is a tricky spot that Doncaster and his cronies find themselves in. Time to start earning his/their money. Also, the income streams of clubs will absolutely be affected unless compensation is provided, which is an almost certain no-no.

We are too small a country to have four divisions and people should hold their hands up and confess that these small divisions have nearly killed the game. We have not got the population of England so stop copying what they do. We have to start looking after our big clubs because we have not got that many of them, and not just catering for the Old Firm only.
Cobra Posted 13 March 2020 Report Share Posted 13 March 2020 In the recent past we've seen the top flight scrap relegation to save Aberdeen and we've saw them let Dunfermline go down and promote us to replace Rangers so it's far from certain what they'd do if the season has to end. With Hearts being bottom I imagine they'll say just cancel promotion and relegation. It's in their interests to have lots of Edinburgh and Dundee derbies next season.

Indeed Posted 13 March 2020 Report Share Posted 13 March 2020 Given the peak for the virus is 10 to 14 weeks away, it's likely the start of the new season will have to be delayed as the present one will not be completed in time. What about starting the new season much later, (after a short break), and instead of playing each other 4 times, play a shortened season, (2020/2021) with each team playing only 3 times or even twice depending on weeks available. I know this doesn't address the contract issue and playing each other 3 times creates the same issue seen with top 6/bottom 6 draws, i.e. you could end up with 2 always and only one home, (or vice versa).
WoodStein Posted 13 March 2020 Report Share Posted 13 March 2020 There are plenty of issues to consider, contractual & financial impact, etc. Most, if not all, of us were not around, but Football & the SFA/FA have dealt with & survived the chaos of two World Wars. It will survive this, even if leagues have to be suspended for a year or more.
Cobra Posted 13 March 2020 Report Share Posted 13 March 2020 Clubs like ICT will be dependent on gates just to keep afloat so I suspect they'll need to be either helped by the banks or the football authorities.
