This morning, the Sun have reported a story that Celtic will go for Bain in the summer so he can be back-up to Craig Gordon.

The figure spoken about seems to be around £400k.

Now I'm not for holding a player back or that (well actually, I am if it helps Dundee) but he's not even been first choice a full season yet. If he wants somewhere to work on his limitations then right now, we are the perfect place. Zaluska has only played four games this season and that nature of game time won't do him any good, it's more likely that he'll perform badly just playing the odd game.

Also, although the figure is better than we could demand for a player in recent years, it simply isn't good enough. On Saturday, we had pundits rave about Bain and every time he's played on TV this year - he's impressed. If he can go through a whole season and feature in every televised game, he will definitely continue to be noticed.

There is even potential for a Scotland call-up too. It's rare for McGregor, Marshall and Gordon to always be fit and the next 'keepers are Gilks (who sits on the bench for Burnely and will probably drop a couple of leagues in the summer) and then Bell (who has bad injury troubles and has not done much since joining Rangers). If Samson and Fox can get into that position, I think he has a reasonable shout. Outside chance of playing but it will improve his standing.

Big Rab is our record transfer fee to Celtic for £1.2 million and I reckon that the best case scenario involves us taking in a fee like that. Worst case if we keep him will be that we can end up having a sh**e season (maybe even relegated) but he's signed up so we would still be looking at the sort of figure being branded around now.

Hope this kind of talk in the Sun, is no more than a bit of silly, speculation, Harry.

Even if it is no more than that, this is definitely not the time to even consider this nonsense.

From another excellent post from yourself ........"Also, although the figure is better than we could demand for a player in recent years, it simply isn't good enough" .........That just about says it all as far as I am concerned.

Let's hope the DFC and the BOD have the same determination and ambition to build Our Club into a real force to be reckoned with, and do not go along the lines of selling potentially great players, at cheap knock-down prices........as appears to be happening now next door.

The £400k figure quoted will be based on his current wages/contract length.

Which is why is makes sense for Dundee to give him an extension and a wage rise asap.

There's no doubt he will leave at some point, but we need to ensure that when he does, the deal benefits both Bain and Dundee FC. (and Alloa if there's a sell-on clause?)
