If our neighbours had the League's second top goalscorer (age 25) and the leagues best goalkeeper (age 23) playing for them, what sort of figures do you think they'd have touted in the press for them several times already based on what they've touted and commanded for their players over the last few seasons after them having half a good season?

I'll go - Bain - 2.5 million, Stewart - 3 million.

The thing is, we rip the p*ss out of them for their constant talking up of players and prices but it has delivered them results with transfer fees in the last couple of seasons.

Smartly worded statements and perfectly timed "leaked" stories etc..

We could do with taking a leaf out of their book when it comes to publicly talking up our players values when the opportunity is there and the time is right.

This is exactly the point I'm making.

It is the one and only aspect of that football club that I have to admit they've got spot on in the last few years.

The minute someone at the dump has had a good run of form, sometimes it's been as little as a dozen games, a figure out of thin air appears in the papers, then the rumour mill is started with bidding wars then near enough every time, they rack up a 7 figure fee with add ons.

Even the GMS deal which they've all been melting down about was a good one getting 500k for a player that would be leaving for nothing in the summer anyway.

We on the other hand have no experience of this game whatsoever having always lost our players for poor money due to never having them on good enough contracts such as Griffiths for 150k (Goodwillie went for 2.8 million same period) One of them has since been the best Scottish striker in Scotland and the other has been very hit and miss.

We have these guys in contract for a change. I like everyone else would rather see them stay at Dens for as long as possible but if and when we have to sell, could we at least play the game that the DABs have played with the media for years now and get some serious money for them? 400k whether it be paper talk or not is an insult for Bain who has barely made a single error in his time at Dens and has been MOTM or near MOTM in every game.
