I really quite like AM by the Arctic Monkeys.

Anyone got any suggestions for the musical illiterate (like me) to enjoy?

Really down to taste mate, most of my musical tastes are pre Arctic Monkeys.

Very true. If you had to recommend one album from the 70s which would you go for?

Been listening to Spotify when working from home the last 12 weeks.  Had the chance to hear some great albums I had never listened to before.  All things must Pass - George Harrison and Songs in the Key of life - Stevie Wonder being just two.

Spotify is one the wonders of the modern age imo.  If someone told me back in the seventies that 40 years later you could listen at home to virtually any song recorded, whenever you want, I would have phoned up the white padded van for them.

I didn't really appreciate Stevie Wonder (and David Bowie) until recent years. Songs in the Key of life is fantastic. I'll need to give that George Harrison one a listen tonight.

Bowie was a genius.  Some classic albums.

Growing up in the 80 Bowie was the guy who sang Dancing in the Streets and appeared in movies. Then in my 40s I discovered Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory and I was just blown away.

Oh, there's a question, one album.... hmmm, the 70's was sort of just before my time musically, I was 12 in 1980 but I did love Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds. Most of the 70's stuff I got into retrospectively was from the likes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Scorpions... Aye, I was a metal boy.

What do you guys think of Radiohead? It was just noise to me at first but after my ex made me listen to it a countless times The Bends became the best thing I'd ever heard.

I thought they had the odd decent track but generally I found them dull, I was maybe too old to 'get them'. They were one of those bands that for me I just didn't get why they were as successful as they were.

The Eels though, while a bit 'depressing' I thought they were much better. I'll throw in a weird one, They Might Be Giants, 'Flood', early 1990 and a whimsical start to the music of the 90's for me.

I randomly came into possession of an Eels album in the 90s, Beautiful Freak, and I loved it. For some reason I didn't listen to their other stuff.

In terms of contemporary stuff Fiona Apple's new album is quite something. Fetch the Bolt Cutters. After a couple of listens you realise you're listening to something pretty special.

I only really listened to Beautiful Freaks too, I did hear some of their other stuff but didn't own it and at the time that was how it rolled, I spent a lot of time listening to a CD walkman, I was the envy of my mates for a short while, bought one for 95 quid (I think) and a pouch for it with sleeves for CD's. 🤣

I've got to admit, I'm just not into 'new' music as I was, guess its part of the ageing process, I still like 'my' music but don't have the same desire to add to it, although when I come across something I like I tend to buy it. I'll try and mind and give it a listen, cheers.
