I thought this was quite interesting. Average weekly wage in our league is £3.5k. Higher than I expected. Anyone know what the average at Dens is for the first team?

I won't expect our players to on those kind of wages, I think that figure would be artificial in nature due to Celtic and The Rangers paying out high wages.

You just wonder how long the English league will last paying those kind of wages before the bottom collapses from under it?

At a guess I'd say Dundee are paying £1.5, United £2k, Aberdeen £2.5 and Celtic closer to £10k.

The Premier League clubs down south should be ok if the TV money deal keeps going up.

What I don't get is why the Dutch league gets more than twice what we get. Celtic are a far bigger draw than Ajax for example.

Jebus...

Nigeria aside, every single one of those salaries is better than mine!

(That's government work for ya!) :(  (I really need the books to sell so I can retire in luxury!!) :D

I know its not scottish premiership but I was told that when Daly went to Rangers from utd his new salary at Ibrox was around 15k a week. If true, why they feel the need to pay these salaries in the lower divisions I do not know. It can only be to keep up with Celtic who must be paying comparable salaries.

They could have got at least 10 good players, which would have taken them into the premiership easily for that kind of money. No wonder The Rangers are practically going bust day in day out. Any sensible board would never have sanctioned that move in that league, and why any player would want to go into a lower division is crazy, but that's Scottish football for you.

...and that is one reason why they managed to spunk £70m winning the two bottom leagues in Scotland.  How much per point :)

It really makes no sense at all to think to think any club in dire financial trouble would even consider that kind of buying nonsense

( I know .........  we did )

The bit of your post ...... "why any player would want to go into a lower division is crazy" Has that got anything to do about integrity ? Or simple greed ?

Some players (people) are driven by the prospect of the big wage packet and others, I suppose get by through life, with different kind of values.

I would agree that Rangers are crazy to be paying those kind of wages to beat mostly part time teams.  I would also agree that at first glance a player moving from the premier down 2 leagues just looks like pure greed. But in a career that will be lucky to last 15 years or a lot less if a bad injury comes along, I would think moving from about 2k a week to 15k a week would be hard to turn down. A 3-4 year contract on that sort of money could make a sensible player secure for life. Most professional players have no skills outside of football and lots of the players have to start from scratch once their playing days are over. as for the English premiership. Aye that's just bonkers money.
