I wonder if Bain has seen out poll?

Dundee keeper Scott Bain reckons he’s still got some learning to do in the top flight.

But the 22-year-old is happy with the way he and the Dark Blues have settled to Premiership football.Bain has started the club’s last four games between the sticks, adding to his earlier debut in the 4-0 League Cup win over Raith Rovers. In that spell, he’s managed to keep two clean sheets, conceding just three goals. Not a bad start to life at the top for the former Alloa Athletic goalie.“My confidence has been growing game by game,” said Bain. “It helps when you are winning games.“I’m just getting comfortable with the standard.“I’m still young and I’m still learning the game.“I think I’ve done well. Like the team, though, I just need to keep it up.”While he’s content with how he’s got up to pace in the Dark Blues’ first team, he’s also been delighted with the side’s overall form.He reckons a 20-point tally at this stage of the campaign is well on the way to meeting Dundee’s target of firstly securing top-flight football for another season and then making a challenge on Scotland’s top-six elite.“We have made a very good start,” Bain said.“If we had said at the start of the season we would have 20 points at this stage, we’d have been very happy.“We have managed to get the points on the board quickly.“We just need to keep it going.“Although I have mentioned points, it’s the one thing we shouldn’t really think too much about.“If we keep the performances going, the points will come with it.“If we play like we know we can, we have shown in flashes this season we will win more than we lose.”Bain admits he was gutted at not saving St Johnstone striker Brian Graham’s penalty-kick that prevented Dundee making it four wins out of four — the first time they would have completed the sequence since 1999 — and sees it very much as two points dropped.Bain said: “It would have been nice to have four out of four but I’m happy with the form of the team since I’ve been in it.“The back four have been great in front of me.“That’s had a big part to play in our results lately.”He added: “There is a noticeable step up in the Premiership.“But you have to weigh that up with the fact you’re also playing with better players.“Mistakes get punished a lot more in the top flight but you also find the mistakes come less often at this level.”One big question lying in wait for manager Paul Hartley in the future is who his true No 1 will be.Injury to Kyle Letheren handed Bain a golden opportunity to shine. However, the Welshman is well on the way to recovery, and is expected to be back in the mix by mid-December.Being the Dark Blues’ first choice is something Bain obviously wants to achieve but he’s not overly concerned at the moment.“I don’t even think about Kyle’s fitness,” he said. “I honestly don’t let anything like that cross my mind.“It’s my job to just pull on the gloves and play. That’s what I intend to do between now and whenever the manager sees fit to change it.“Hopefully, the gaffer thinks I’ve done enough to keep the shirt.”
