This will get the Derry development / stadium buy back discussion going again Abdul..

Although ther are umpteen obstacles in our way to do anything with it and I love watching my football from there, it is a complete eyesore.

My fear is that the Derry will not be with us for much longer.. Either deemed as not fit for use for one reason or another or closed for most matches due to pressures from the authorities.

That day is not far off at all.

The question is what do we also do with the TV gantry if it's deemed unsafe? We would likely have to knock the stand down and build a tv camera/media area. That in itself won't come cheap.

Ah yes, let's all enjoy sitting on our hands, in a sanitised environment for children.

Say what you want but the removal of Derry esque Sheds is the problem with football. If you want to sit and enjoy something in peace and quiet p**s off to the Theatre or Cinema.

The problem is not knocking them down, it's what they get replaced with.

Can we not if the day ever comes get an architect to draw up something as close to the original as possible, but with no pillars and modern facilities.

They'd put up scaffolding, similar to Falkirk, Hamilton and Inverness. No big deal - it's just a slightly bigger version of the gantries next to the Bobby Cox.

Aye, when it comes to watching football it's Deestructions way or the Highway.

Can we not just have a simple cheap long stand. No fancy stands. What is everyone's fascination with modern stands.

The cheapest stands are like the one at Palmerston or Livi, they're basically off the shelf solutions which is why they're so generic.  Problem is that they don't really promote a good atmosphere, being awfully shallow and feeling open.  The derry is a great stand to watch football in, but realistically I'd be surprised if it was still in use in 15 years time without becoming a serious drain with maintenance and reworking costs.  It's heyday is sadly past us and we probably need to start looking at what options we can afford.  Unfortunately the likely result is that we'll either eventually be closing one side of our stadium or have to put up one of those cheap modern stands.

It's hardly what I implied Chomp - the issue arises when people when the removal of them and replacement with Lego stands (which is all you will see).

As Abdul implies, if they offered me a modern Shed design, without pillars and decent sound system I wouldn't complain, but you need the angled stand, the shed roof (creates atmosphere), Stairway to Heaven, and back view.

Some think the Derry is an eyesore, others call it charm. Whichever way you want to spin it, it's where the atmosphere is started, it's where the home/away loyals go, and to change it would negatively effect the way many can support the team.

What I'm trying to say is, if you want sanitised go sit in the Main Stand, if you want moaning then the Coxy is for you, but if you want to shout, stand, swear and Rhumba, welcome to heaven.

ETA - I over reacted earlier clearly, but f**k me don't make me contemplate losing the current Derry Chomp - as real a possibility it is.
