Colvin In Talks Over Dens Park Buy-Out

Dundee chairman Bill Colvin is showing serious interest in buying Dens Park but a deal to take over the ownership of his club’s traditional home is not close — yet.

The Evening Telegraph has received confirmation talks between Colvin and Dens owner, the Dundee United director John Bennett, have taken place.

They are ongoing and amicable but, so far, there has been no agreement on a price for the stadium, valued by Bennett at around £750,000. It remains uncertain one will be.

Colvin, a major financial backer of the Dark Blues since his family’s cash helped them survive administration in 2010, is aware the majority of fans would like to see the ground either again club-owned or at least in the hands of a recognised “Dundee person”.

As a United director Bennett does not fit the bill, though, despite his stronger ties with the tangerine half of the city, the millionaire has always enjoyed a good relationship with Dundee.

He bought the stadium to help them clear their bank debt during former chairman Bob Brannan’s time at the helm.

And there has never been any question of him leasing Dens to anyone other than Dundee.

He has also always maintained he would be willing to sell on, so long as the price was right and those buying from him were Dundee-minded.
