Gowser and Anderson injured but were picked ahead of Charlie  , Byrne back in from the cold ahead of him and McGhee out for 3 months , 1 training session with his team mates and back in the starting line up with Charlie sitting on the sidelines.

After a great few months it seems he has dropped away since January. Losing his mum will have Been tough then Covid but he  seems to be getting further down the pecking order. When does he feature again ?

For me, the Adam issue is all about mobility. If we go back to watch the humping at Ayr early in the season, their midfield just have freedom in our last third because they've got an extra man that he's not being able to follow. Sure we make a mess of it at the back but by the time the play reaches our defence, they are exposed and put in a position where they need to make a decision to fly into a tackle or just stand up and let players advance into the penalty area.

He does put in challenges and tries to impose himself but he's just a tad slow and has a very high foul count. He's 35 now and doesn't really have that natural fitness to keep up with these younger and athletic runners. Gowser has been called slow a lot but he's a couple of years younger and does just seem to have that natural build that you couldn't really imagine holding weight after retirement.

Sure, best player in the league on the ball and can transform a game but I do think starting him causes more trouble and we saw a lot of that early in the season with our goal against tally (we've went from well above average in goals lost to below without him starting). I think he's still got something to offer but it's probably best placed to happen from the bench - I was shocked we didn't use him for the last half an hour against Dunfermline. Think he's worth sacrificing a striker at the end of games like that as we had a lot of the ball and I think he'd have done more with it.

I think he has the experience & maturity to accept (at east at this time) that he does not have the speed & fitness to go the whole ninety minutes. But we certainly can't write him off at this time. I did say in a much earlier post, he would probably be  better to be on the bench at the start of the game. Knowing there is every chance, he will be on sometime in the second half... And this in it's self could give any opposition some real concerns....Great respect for the man.

Maybe with McGhee back we'll see the Byrne, McGhee and Adam midfield 3 again. With Gowser injured we did miss the quality on the ball with McGhee and Byrne playing as a two on Tuesday I think. If we do go with 3 again I hope we keep the two wide players in a front 3 to keep some pace in the team.

Still think folk are reading too much into the Adam situation... He was out for a few games we found the personnel and system that works... Don't think he started v Dunfermline as mcpake obviously thought they would come at us more than they did... Should he have put him on with 15-20 to go maybe.... But if he did the Dunfermline got on top in the midfield mcpake would have got slaughtered for it

I would love to know the reason why he's had just 10 minutes of game time in the last two games. If it was long COVID, why was he even on the bench? It's definitely not due to a falling out, given the way Adam speaks of McPake I'm sure of that. If it's because McPake doesn't fancy him in a 4-4-2 under any circumstances, I would say that is ridiculous. If he's physically able to, how he's not getting at least 15-20 minutes at the end of each game in which we've looked as impotent up front as ever is beyond me.

I am supposing Adam wasn't used at Dunfermline because McPake thought the midfield and defence were doing okay and he didn't want to take the risk of the Pars nicking an undeserved win.  If we had been losing the game there is no doubt at all that Adam would have been put on.

Yes not starting the other night will have been a sore one for him but then not to be put on for the last 10 when he could have made an impact looks strange.

Why did he only get 10mins against Morton when we were dreadful and only looked like scoring when he came on.

Remember the last time Adam and Byrne started together Hearts at Dens .

We were on top of that game for at least an hour-no idea why they have never been selected together again.

Saving him for the playoffs

Are we no better making sure we are actually in the play-offs first?

If we were to lose to ICT and Raith it would be looking dodgy, we’ve never won in league at Inverness and we’re played off the park in Kirkcaldy so team need to step up now
