How would Harkins help alleviate long ball football?

Are you aiming to put him back where his career started, at centre back? :P

There's more to anti-football than playing hoof ball.

St Johnstone like to close their opponents down as quick as possible and tend to get as many men behind the ball when out of possession, making it difficult to create chances to score. They're very good at it and the tactic serves them very well. It's just not very good to watch.

Harkins is the best we have at unpicking tightly packed defences and would no doubt have helped our chances yesterday.

There's also the chance that he would be like a man down on a field like that. He's hardly known as a grafter.

There is that chance.

If only he was able to put himself about like Clarkson?

Now, sadly, that was like playing like a man down!

Saints haven't just started to play this way, it has been their mantra for a few years now. Hawkins helped destroy and dominate them earlier in the season, I think he'd have been able to do so again yesterday.

They aren't a great team and when we did manage to pass through the furrows on their ploughed filed (very apt for fermers), they struggled to deal with it. Just a shame that with Clarkson still struggling for any sort of first touch and Stewart out of sorts, we didn't turn one or two of the moves into real chances.

It's not like we took a doing yesterday and I can console myself with the thought that while we're hardly playing sexy-football, there are many worse teams to watch in this league.
