If Hibs don't get up, and rangers did, then Hibs couldn't afford to keep both Scott Allan and Fraser Fyvie. So I'd take one of them.

Need a new back up Keeper

Def Left side

Centre Back

Mid (see above)

Right winger (Not Harris, we can do better)

Striker (Loy)

Can see Hartley using his contacts in Europe for some of these positions. Exciting summer again. Club need to get season tickets on sale early alongside the new top.

Scott Allen and Ryan Christie.

Probably nae chance of either.

Never ask, you never get - but I think RC is signed to the end of next season

Ali Crawford, Marvin Johnson, Kevin Holt, John mcginn, Lyle Taylor, Lionel ainsworth, Gavin Reilly, Declan Gallagher, Jamie MacDonald in if possible.

Out: letheren, Irvine, gadz, dyer, davo, McBride, Reid, Benny, Boyle, Roberts, Clarkson, Heffernan, Harris, ferry out.

Could see the following players leaving in the summer, either through being surplus to requirements or in search of first team football;

Letheren; Dyer, Benedictus, Davidson, Gadzhalov, McBride, Reid, Ferry, Harris, Boyle, Roberts, Clarkson, Heffernan.

That would leave us with a squad of;

Bain; P. McGinn, Irvine, Kerr, McPake, Konrad; McAlister, Thomson, McGowan, Harkins, S. McGinn (hopeful we'll secure him on a permanent basis); Stewart, Tankulic, Wighton.

If such a big clear out does indeed happen, we'll need at least 8 incoming signings, in my opinion.

Tomas Cerny (He's back-up at Hibs, why not us?), Mark Durnan, Kevin Holt, Rory Loy, John McGinn and an unknown foreign player that surprises us all.

No idea how "getable" some of these are in terms of contracts etc but some on my list of players known to me would be:

Ziggy Gordon

Ali Crawford

Scott Allan

John McGinn

Kane Hemmings ??

Stephen O'Donnell

Gavin Reilly

I'll try this football manager thing again to see how my views have changed. I find that my mood seems to drastically effect how I do this. This is a semi achievable attempt I reckon. So many young players suggested and there hasn't really been any I wouldn't take but hard to see more than one move being financed.

Squad (new additions in bold)

Goalkeepers

Scott Bain

Jamie Langfield (Deadly serious. Said to be looking to go into coaching and was linked to go down to Brechin, would be a superb no2/goalkeeper coach if Geddes is leaving)

Full Backs

Paul McGinn

Cammy Kerr

Kevin Holt

Gary Irvine

Centre Backs

Thomas Konrad

James McPake

Andy Webster

[Cheap young centre back] - Someone around 20 from part time/abroad. Can trial for this and hopefully get someone exotic. Scott Rumsby from Stranraer is looking to step up to full time football and is regarded quite highly.

Midfielders

Stephen McGinn

Paul McGowan

Kevin Thomson

Jackson Irvine (Young and can cover in a number of positions. Not pretty but would give us a bit of grit in the squad)

Nicky Low (At Aberdeen and seems to go through periods in and out of the team. Is injured right now and likely to leave Aberdeen in the summer. On the pitch though, he's a hard worker with a great left foot and does make an actual contribution. Don't know what state he's in but always quite liked him.)

Wingers

Marvin Johnson (Pretty young. Looks like he'd be open to a move up here and looks like one of Motherwell's better players since arriving)

[Cheap young winger] - Like the defender, I'd like someone pretty unknown to take a gamble on. Alan Forrest at Ayr is one who comes to mind for the Scottish Leagues).

Marvin Johnson

Attackers

Luka Tankulic

Gary Harkins

Craig Wighton

Greg Stewart

Rory Loy

That'd give a best team of:

--------------------Bain----------------

McGinn--McPake--Webster--Holt

--------McGowan--Thomson-------

-----Johnson--Harkins--Stewart---

-------------------Loy-------------------

and a second string of:

----------------------Langfield-----------------

Kerr--[young defender]--Konrad--GIrvine

--[young winger]--JIrvine--McGinn--Low-

----------------Wighton--Tankulic------------

Obviously, we'd need to see how things would work out and that. Just made those two teams to show the sort of depth we could be looking at. I think this season that we've just struggled a bit with having a second string who are quite a bit below the level of the theoretical first 11.

Good post Harry. Always interesting to read your insight on these kind of discussions.

I like Tankulic, Wighton and Stewart as players but don't think they are much use up front. They are far better in a slightly deeper role IMO where their creativity can make a difference. I would like to see an alternative to Loy. Maybe we should hang on to the Heff.

Quick question... do you think there are players of the calibre of Stewart and Bain currently playing for smaller clubs? I suppose you can never say for sure until they've made the step up.

Undoubtedly yes mate..

It's finding them and supporting them through the step up that's key to it!
