"Amazon" " Destroy Millions of "Unsold Items" (Strange World)

Recommended Posts

Maybe a kinda strange topic to add to the forum...

But I cannae get my head round this Practice at all.

Families/children risk their lives scavenging dumps,

for rotten food and anything they may sell or re-use,

And this is going on here. Do watch this short video.

I watched the video.

Unfortunately, this will be replicated all over the world in the developed nations.  I'm pretty certain it doesn't happen where I am, at least on such a scale.

The problem is how to reduce this waste.  I'd imaging the majority is unsold stuff rather than returned so the only solution is to balance supply/demand better i.e. customers have to accept longer delivery times.  This wouldn't kill us, we managed until now without it, but it's nigh impossible to go backwards.

Of course, I'm over-simplifying things but companies like Amazon have been so successful by responding to its customers so ultimately customers are shaping how those companies operate.

So, gedee, it's pretty much all your fault! 😋

Edit - For example, I ordered a cheapo lamp table online on Sunday - I won't get it until the 1st week of July.  I'll survive until then! Next day delivery here in the Philippines is not a thing.

Thanks for response & general comments HK....

It's a reflection I suppose of the the commercial/consumer type of "Civilised" world we live in, and how (without trying to sound too "heavy or goody-goody") the biggest Companies/Businesses/Organisations, being driven by similar competition around...Each  trying to make sure they get the Largest Slice of the Pie.

In Commercial Sense/Business Terms, it would be called simply "Being successful" I imagine.

But to "ordinary fowk" it' seem to be all about "continuous obsessive greed & maximum profit"

Customers' endless demands o' wantin' the best & most up-to date, of course pushes it along.

Can't say too much on your last comment as I don't want to halt pocket money negotiations ;)

Not surprised in the slightest by this, I've saw it first hand all over the place. We used to make tyres in Dundee on the Monday knowing full well that they'd be destroyed and shipped off to landfill by the weekend. I see food, that is vastly over produced in the UK, being destroyed on a daily basis.

Supermarkets ship massive amounts of unwanted food to charity under the guise of 'charitable donations' rather than paying to have THEIR waste properly disposed of. The food arrives in large quantities that often can't be processed before the short use by dates and the cost of disposal is transferred to the charity.

Bojo can't do anything because the big guys are running the show now, government's are nothing more than figureheads.
