Dens Pitch Size

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I always thought the pitch at dens was one of the bigger ones but Wikipedia has it as 109x69 yards and tannadice as 110x72 yards.

Always also thought the pitch over the road was quite a bit smaller.

Anyone know much more on this? Is it all sh**e info or have I always been mistaken?

Always thought it was a big one myself but did Bomber or possibly Barry not get it narrowed the other season to try and stop us conceeding from wide when we were going down in record fashion?

The amount of space between the middle of the Main Stand and the front wall of the Derry is massive.

Dens has always been short, but wide. Or that was my understanding of it. I think it was Alex Rae who brought it in but widened it.

Rae narrowed it did he not?

I thought he widened it to give Dacquin every possible inch to not run out of pitch after his first touch?

It could quite easily have been lengthened it for this reason!

Wonder if Hartley will look to change it over the summer?

If we want to play with proper wingers it's a must I would think.

Does PH want to play with proper wingers though?

:lol2:  You've brought back some memories, I can laugh about it now though.

I laughed at the time. I think it Freddy was a contributory factor to my nervous breakdown

I started the job I'm in now and came across a Project Manager, Frenchman name of Freddy, I honestly shuddered.

Fred was a hero. A toe tapping, knee slapping, Bob shankly sign breakin hero.

Boy could dance. Awful footballer though.

Don't think there are many proper wingers out there any more.  Not at our level in any case.  A lot of boys who start out as wingers end up wanting to play through the middle.

According to Davie Farrell's blog, Rae made the pitch narrower as he felt the opposition players loved having all the room to run into when they came to Dens, parked the bus and hit us on the break.

Ah, thanks! Does it mention if he lengthened it?

Next season we're seeking special dispensation to bring the touch lines in to only a yard outside the 18 yard box.

PH is apparently already recruiting for our new formation:

When we play away we'll go:

2

3

2

2

1

Just to make sure we're not leaking goals at the back!
