Hopefully, he'll arrive fit and ready at the start of pre-season to work with Ritchie and Hartley (who both know him well) to get up to speed with the demands of being at a full-time club.

The limitations I've seen in him when playing against us (the only games I can really comment on) were that towards the end of games, he tired quite a bit (which to be fair was when he was left exposed against Boyle). He's been pretty much ever present since arriving there so I'm sure that can be worked upon as it isn't injury based or anything.

There is a bit of debate on Alloa forums on whether he is a better centre back or left back and this is the response I got a wee while ago when I asked them on P & B:

You will probably get a bit of a debate on this Harry, he has played the majority of the games with us as a left back but when he has played centre half in my opinion he looks a better player and happier playing there.

He is quite small for a centre half but has a great leap and not many get the better of him in the air as he really attacks the ball well. He is no speed merchant but is no slouch either, solid in the tackle, can strike a good shot, doesnt seem to suffer from injuries and gives his all in every game. The only negative thing i could say about him is that his distribution can be suspect and he is not one for firing over dangerous crosses from wide areas but if he is used as a centre half then this wouldnt be an issue.

All in all a very good player who with the right coaching and full time training will be able to cope with the demands of the SPL no bother and if he continues to develop as he is could be a good wee investment for Dundee. Will be sad to see him go.

I think Meggatt is a really good left back, hence why he plays there the majority of the time for Alloa. I agree with the views above to an extent, but my take on it is that to go up a level to Premiership Daryll maybe doesnt offer you quite enough if you are looking for your full backs to get forward and provide a regular attacking threat. Thats not to say he couldnt get there though with good full time coaching. But this is maybe why he is portrayed as being a better centre half -and he does consistently shine when deployed there.

Daryll is dependable, composed, strong and his positional awareness is really good. Has been an excellent player for Alloa over the past two and a half seasons.

And previous comment about him in general:

From the Queen's Park left back production line. Very solid defender indeed and capable enough with the ball at his feet. Also very good as a left sided centre half and I think that might be the position he ends up playing later in his career. Still fairly young and a player who with a bit of work is well capable of stepping up IMO.
The left back position for Alloa has been our Achilles heel for about 10 of the last 15 seasons. Meggatt is comfortable on the ball and quite tricky too. How his dragback flick constantly works against players he's competed against on numerous occasions is baffling but he's quick, got good positioning, can link well with the midfielders in tight situations and can put in a decent cross too. I rated him as not only our best player last season, but the one with the most potential to take his career higher, especially considering his age, physicality, fitness and not forgetting his general footballing ability. He's had a couple of average games for us recently but overall I reckon he'd make the step up to Dundee in his stride.

Quite happy with the signing given their feedback (Alloa fans come across as quite down to earth. A few at Cowdenbeath were on the fence about whether or not they should retain Greg Stewart  ) and the fact that he's relatively young.

Great getting business done early and I'm confident that he'll improve the squad!

Who kidnapped DFC and replaced it with this professional outfit?

Just need the commercial side fully back up to speed and we're there.

Hopefully the new man will sort it out.
