I enclose details about the appointment of Glasgow based lawyer Tony McGlennan as the new SFA Compliance Officer in place of the pervious incumbent Vincent Lunny. McGlennan's appointment was announced on 8th August 2014.http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28708884

However Tony McGlennan is not totally independent and in my opinion he should never have been appointed to the post.

I enclose details of a court case which took place on 6th February 2012 at Inverness Sheriff Court. In the dock was Michael Docherty a Celtic supporter who got involved in a fight at the Away end of the ground after the end of an ICT v Celtic cup tie. Mr Docherty's solicitor was Tony McGlennan who is now the SFA Compliance Officer.

Whilst their is nothing to stop a defendant hiring a Glasgow based solicitor to defend him, normally in cases like this the defendant would usually use a local (Inverness) based solicitor to defend him especially if the defendant is receiving legal aid. http://www.highland-news.co.uk/News/Celtic-fan-in-court-on-fight-charge-after-slashing-at-Inverness-cup-tie-06022012.htm

It would be interesting to know how many other cases Mr McGlennan has taken where he has been representing Celtic supporters in court.

I understand your objection, Islay.

But then, to be fair,  that would probably mean no-one from Glasgow would be suitable.

I would imagine most of the male population support either celtic or loanrangers (or the Jags) in that city...

Jags fan - fair enough... :)

Joe.

Was the SFA Compliance job advertised or was it another case of "jobs for the boys".

There are plenty of solicitors throughout Scotland including some who are currently unemployed who are not interested in Scottish Football and would be delighted to receive a good salary for a "cushy" job as SFA Compliance Officer.

In my opinion it is not necessary to employ a solicitor to carry out this job, only someone with good eyesight and a bit of common sense!

Well, your first question is moot - doubt we'd ever get an answer for that. (Anyone know if/when/where the SFA put their posts out for application?)

Can't argue with any of that Islay.

Football needs a lot less solicitors and a lot more sense at it's helm.

Josh Meeking's ban imposed by McGlennan is third McGlennan ban that has recently been overturned on appeal.

There is a well known saying "three strikes and you are out".

In my opinion Tony McGlennan's time is up as the SFA Compliance Officer. He should do the honourable thing and tender his resignation. I am sure that he will easily get another job as a solicitor in Glasgow.
