Youth - Exciting Times!

With the Evening Tele reporting that we've beaten the likes of Brentford and Stoke to a 16 year old Irish kid called Joe Breen (See Harry's thread on him!) it seems like we are finally getting our house in order and have a good few promising youth talents at the club.

Carriero, Wighton, Kerr, Priest & now this Breen, not to mention the two promising keepers on our books in Gourlay and Brodie and a good few others that the likes of Wattie will be able to mention, it looks like we're going to have a few decent players breaking through over the next few seasons.

Sure, some of those names mentioned may prove to not cut the mustard, perhaps even the majority, but that's the risk that's taken with youth players.  Good to see Hartley saying he wants to set up a network in the West Coast of Scotland to secure not only the best Dundonian players, but the best young players in Scotland. And with him already dipping in the market down South such as Carriero from QPR and Priest from Wolves and now this Breen from Ireland, it shows that no stone is being left unturned in the bid to improve the players that are coming through at the club, not just at first team level but for years to come!

Today is the first time I've felt that leaving Wighton on the bench was unacceptable. The guy is bursting with promise. Starting Clarkson and Heff betrays a total lack of faith in youth and the future. With top six in the bag it's depressing and inexplicable.
