Agree they're a bit dated now but as historical documents some of the old ones are great.
Must get up into the loft and have a rummage at some of the old ones.
Got a few of my favourites on the wall in my wee tv room

Collected them for years but, as with every other aspect of match day, the cost just spiralled. Great to look back at though, it's crazy how much you forget.

Nowadays, I get my information overload from the news section on the DFC website. Two items have been added since the Saints game on 2nd October. 😆

I was told a few years back that we sold around 400 per average home game.

I was a programme seller back in the 60s selling at the bottom of the provie. On a good day, old firm, derbies etc I would sell that number myself. At that time there was at least 10 or 12 sellers outside the ground and more inside. Programme sales were numbered in the many thousands per game at times I can' t remember just how many. The most I ever sold was in excess of 1000 on my own at the Fairs Cup semi v. Leeds. Agree that they are dated now but folk got genuine news from them in those days and pre comprehensive radio coverage there was always the half time scores put up on the old board in line with the letters in the programme. I also put the numbers up on the board for a number of seasons and that is a story in itself!

Even in those days there were parts of Dens not exactly in a good state of repair. Over the 3 or 4 seasons I did it the board generally deteriorated season after season. After selling the programmes and cashing up I got a while to watch the game before collecting the half time scores written on the match day programme just like a lot of the punters did, copying from the board. The timing was usually into the start of the second half by the time the scores appeared by phone in the days before comprehensive radio coverage with teletext and internet pure science fiction.

The problems were either the make up of the scores or the decrepit state of the board. If I remember right there were about 8 scores on each side of the board which covered all of the other first division games and most of the second division games in the heady old days when all games started at 3pm on a saturday. Occasionally the make up of the scores caused problems if there were too many 0-0 draws or if too many teams scored 4 say due to the limited number of some of the numbers. Sometimes, no often, the wood was swollen and couldn't be pulled all the way up confusing the punters. One time it fell apart the pulley falling off nearly braining me and my assistant (no health and safety in those days).

The best fun though was dealing with the United score. If they were winning, no fun, you just put up the score. If they were getting beat, better still humped we used to hold back their score to the last being put in (the crowd always watched for that score and where it would be put prior to pulling up the pulley ropes). We could always milk the cheers of the crowd if we theatrically put up a 1-0, 2-1 score etc. If they were getting beat say 3-2 at half time we would put in the 2 first to groans and a few boos then the 3 to bigger than normal cheers. Heaven was of course a big score like 3 or 4 down, didn't happen often but good fun when it did.

Eventually at the end of the sixties I moved on from selling programmes to working the turnstiles and passed the scoreboard over to someone else.

Hibs become first club to cease production, replaced by a quarterly magazine.

I used to collect them but stopped buying them years ago. £3 for old news and not an expense I need on match day.

Thoughts folks?

Sadly have to agree about the content and price.
