Being there midweek and being at Ibrox today, i feel like we will be lost at the back until January when we can bring reinforcements in.

Ashcroft’s contract is up at the end of the season, where do we go from here?

Ashcroft is the best centre half we have at the club. Apart from his goals, he gets on the end of practically every high ball into our box and is excellent at putting his body in the way and blocking shots. The best CH we have had since JMcP himself. We are left short now as Sweeney is approaching a suspension and Fontaine, who is a good 3rd/4th choice is prone to an injury himself. In addition to midfield, this is where the wheels are likely to come off. Not beyond the realms of possibility that Panter could be playing alongside Kerr at the back shortly.

The thought of a cb pairing of Panter and a makeshift Cammy Kerr for the derby if suspensions hit 😵

Jordan McGee is due back to training this week he can provide cover there until  jan or when Ashcroft is due back.

A very scary prospect. We need  a better battling midfield than we have. In my view, McPake desperately needs another central midfielder and a centre back ideally around the 25/26 year old mark. He needs to get Byrne's contract extended and Ashcroft's.

I never rated McPake as a defender tbh. Always thought he was out of position and gave away loads of silly fouls and pens. He always gave 100% and had a few great moments for us in the derbies but as a defender i preferred Konrad at the time.

On this seasons defenders i put Sweeney as the best. There's been a few games this season he has looked like he could play at a higher level, particularly Rangers at home.

Feel like Ashcroft turns like a tank. He's brilliant in the air, but his movement is that of an old age pensioner. Has his uses particularly as an enforcer type CH provided we have a more classy CH next to him, but I feel Sweeney does the same job and has the potential and physical attributes to be the better of the two.

Hi Ludo, I'm no sure it's fair to compare Ashcroft to an old age pensioner (And I am certainly no defending oor generation)....Compared to me, he's like a gazelle !! (Lithe, Graceful, & Fleet of Foot) :lol2:

The only time eh can get up to that kind of speed, is when Mrs G. shouts througH fae the kitchen, she left oot my (long suspended) weekly £5 pocket money wi a fresh cup of tea & one of her fresh oven bakes:chaplin:
