Tommy Wright Sacked Because of the Fog?

Recommended Posts

Pretty harsh from Kilmarnock if you ask me! 😂

Tommy Wright has been sacked by Kilmarnock in the aftermath of his side's Scottish Championship meeting with Dunfermline Athletic being abandoned due to fog.

The Ayrshire side remain five points adrift in the title race after the game was suspended in the 63rd minute, then called off by referee Craig Napier.

But Kilmarnock - who were relegated from the Scottish Premiership last May - have slipped out of the play-off places after a run of four defeats in their last five league games.

They led against Dunfermline on Saturday through Oli Shaw's early penalty, but Craig Wighton replied for the visitors before the game was halted.

In a statement, director Billy Bowie said the decision was taken "with regret" .

"I know how much Tommy wanted to bring success to Kilmarnock," he added. "Everyone at the club is under no illusions that promotion back to the Premiership is the number one target.

"With half of our league matches remaining as well as the upcoming January transfer window, our full focus is on appointing a new manager to achieve that goal."

The start of a Falkirkesque free fall?

They are a game in hand and 5 off the top. Historically the relegated side is generally a bit worse than that and usually comes together second half of the season.

Don't know what's going on behind the scenes but do think they've actually started well enough considering the mass exodus at the play off and having to sign a new team later than usual. Certainly much better than us at that stage last time down.

Sacked after 17 games, 5th place in the league on 29 points, after a complete squad overhaul in the summer. 4 defeats from their last 5 games is certainly a bad run.

Only Kilmarnock fans will know if he needed to go or not.

Last season after 17 games, we had 24 points, and were in 5th place, despite McPake having 3 transfer windows. We somehow managed to get promoted though.

I think Kilmarnock were wrong to sack him.

Proven to always have a better second half of the season and start getting wins under his belt. They should have given him until the end of the season at least.

Time will tell, but I think the new manager will not do any better than Wright at that level.

And people complain that we are knee-jerk reactionaries, I think the Killie board put their whole body in with this one.

Just been reading that he was incredibly unpopular with fans, and not liked within the club. If so, it was only a matter of time.

I wish Nelms was as quick to act…
