One Dee

You might be 20, 40, 60 or 80. Your experience as a Dee is unique to you. Lots of highs and lows no doubt but which one player has given you the most happiness (for want of a better word) as a Dee?

For me I think it's Gary Harkins. We had a great team in the 80s, we were really entertaining in the 90s at times and the Bonetti period was pretty special but it wasn't until the last decade that I really started to seriously watch games and appreciate what players did or didn't do.

Harkins, like Chic Charnley, didn't make the most of his talent. Both should have played for Celtic. Somehow that makes them a little bit more legendary in my eyes. They didn't take their football career all that seriously but were still devastatingly effective at times.

Nemsadze, twinkle toes just made me happy.

Notable mentions to Harkins, Rae, Stewart, Weighorst and almost anyone Argentinian.

I kinda believe that had Charnley had an IQ even remotely near his footballing ability, he could have been the best Scottish player Ive ever seen, the guy was a genius and a total numpty at the same time.

I'm old enough that I could name at least half a dozen stand outs but you asked for one so it's Tommy Coyne for me. His partnership with Keith Wright was a joy to watch

What do you think was Coyne's greatest attribute? Was it his movement or finishing?

Both really Cobra he and Keith Wright struck up a partnership that at times was almost telepathic. Wright would be the target man and invariably his headed ball would land at Coynes feet I don't think we have ever had a front 2 since that have had that level of understanding since... It was a shame if not surprising the partnership eventually broke up

When you reach your later years this becomes an almost impossible question to decide on. The heroes you had as a young laddie maybe fade with time or on the other hand stories or incidents can grow arms and legs and become Roy of the Rovers stuff. Jocky was a fabulous player for Dundee when I was growing up and then later on, in my fifties, I could just as easily sit back and enjoy the quality of Gary Harkins.

I started this thread in the hope I would read stuff like this.

Jocky Scott superstar.

Guy was breathtaking on his day, but he had his off days. Oozed class.

He scored a cracking og at Arbroath once, wasn't there, but heard he just rolled it past the keeper who wasn't ready for it. Awful at the time, but looking back, added to the legend.

Had it all. If he was around just now he wouldn't be playing at DFC but at a higher level. Maybe a bit of the blue tinted glasses?

Jocky's first spell at Dens was just a smidge before my time but a mate's dad used to go to Dens to see Jocky and for nothing else. When Jocky left he stopped going.
