Three More Utterly Pointless Trivia Questions

Recommended Posts

You need to have reached a special level of boredom to be even remotely interested in answering these but we need something to pass the time and there's only so many discussions about the manager's future that I can deal with.

The theme is first/last Dundee goals of the league season in the past 25 years.

1.       Name the only player to have scored our first league goal of the season on two occasions?

2.       Name the two players who have scored our last league goal of the season on two occasions?

3.       Name the only player to have scored our first and last league goal in the same season?

Nae cheatin mind.

WIthout cheating. Peter MacDonald (great signing!) scored the first goal in the 3-4 defeat at Queen of the South on the first day of the 2013/14 league season and the second goal in the 2-1 win over Dumbarton on the last day to clinch the title.

Correct.

And he was indeed a brilliant signing. More responsible than anyone for our promotion.

Still not cheating, but just rooting around in what I think I remember.

Was number 1 none other than GGH? Against Queen of the South in a 1-0 win (I think) at Dens in 2010/11, and Kilmarnock in our first game back in the Premiership in 2014, a 1-1 draw at Dens.

Close but not quite. Loy scored on opening day in consecutive seasons but didnt get the opener against killie. It was a worldie from Gorgeous Greg.

Worldie? It was just routine for Greg. That's what he does.

Rory Loy scored twice in each of those games. I think he was rather under-rated and under used. I'd have liked to see Paul Hartley persist with him after we sold Kane Hemmings.

This is the one I've found hardest. The problem is that so many end of season games are pretty meh affairs, a bit of an anti-climax, eg 2016. There were two games after the Doon Derby, but who remembers anything about them?

So my guesses are;

Steve Lovell 2003 (Dunfermline home, 2-2 ) and 2004 (Aberdeen away, 3-2 win).

Colin McMenamin 2008 (Hamilton home, 1-1) and 2009 (Partick Thistle home, 4-0 win).

You're doing very well here Rumple.

GGH is correct. The win over Queens in 2010 is famous for the fact that we had 9 men for the last 20 mins.

Also correct is Colin Mcmenamin. The Hamilton game in 08 was all set up to be a title decider but they ended up wrapping up the title the week before meaning their fans had a jolly that day at Dens and nearly won but for Cocos last minute header. And he scored a hat trick against Thistle 12 months later.

But Steve Lovell is wrong. His second against Dunfermline in 03 wasnt our last goal that season. And the game in 04 was 2-1, not 3-2. Our last win at Pitoddrie sadly.

Caballero? His double at Parkhead in 2001 then at Fir Park a year

Spot on Mr G.

The Fir Park game was fairly forgettable. Think we needed a win to finish above utd but never looked bothered. We got put in the top tier so we wouldn't join in with wells pitch invasion at the end.
