Looking Forward

Bottom of the league going in to February obviously is not where any of us want to be .

But I think there were some real positives to take from last nights Derby and that's the first time in a long  while I have thought that  .

The new RB looks very good and having kept 3 clean sheets on the bounce the back 4 / keeper are playing well. Cammy is solid at LB, so much so I would have him there ahead of Marshal upon his return . Once Ashcroft is back that back 4 will be a good one IMO with very capable players like Mcghee & Fontaine to step in if need be .

Our midfield 3 ,when all fit ,are a very good unit and while we only get 60mins out of Charlie what he does while on the park and the quality he has  is invaluable to the side and our prospects this season .

We have 3 very good wide player fighting it out for 2 spots now , quality , pace and desire which is something as a club we haven't had in our wide players for as long as i can remember .

Up front a lot will depend on how well Rudden does . Mullen doesn't score the goals we need unfortunately but i like the look of the Zak and if he can provide the end product I'm pretty positive about the rest of the season .

3 points against ross County wont be easy but its very doable and if we get the win that could really turn our season around and  at least that fighting performance last night has given some signs that we are hopefully on the right track now.

Nothing but a win on Saturday and I fear that may well be us done with the fixtures coming up. We need to drag county back down. I would start rudden and mccowan for this one. We have byrne back now so we wont be lying down to them like we did last time.

Keeper flogged  it up in Dingwall last time, would have gone 8 clear of them with a win.

Saturday now is huge…..

With Hearts and Celtic away to come, 3 points would do us so much good.

Takes the pressure off the hearts match slightly, and drags County back into it.

I would take 3 points from next 3 as long as the win is this weekend.

Now that the dust has settled, it was pretty decent last night, definitely the better team for large spells, and certainly can’t fault the effort of the players.

Fans stuck by the team, and they always will, if we get that kind of application rather than Livi that night.

We need 6 points from county and st Mirren games to get us back in touch- if we can’t beat these teams at home we are doooomed.

I think we can get the 6.

I think this is true however well we played last night. Those two games have to be won or there is little chance of survival. Not just points, but confidence will be so low that it would need a Deefiant type last quarter of the season to stay up.

Whilst I understand the need to get points on the board wherever we can, we shouldn't ignore the 2 teams around us and how their results are just as important as ours.  The must-wins are the games against those two.

Realistically, 11th is probably the best we can achieve - I'd take it now.

I am kind of resigned to finishing in the bottom 2 but if we have any hope of avoiding it then Saturday is a must win.

The effort and fight last night was first class. Boys throwing themselves in front of everything and putting in absolutely massive shifts, McPake has to be commended for getting that type of performance out of them after the Livi shambles but we did lack quality in the final third (so did they, to be fair. 3 strikers on the pitch and the keeper didn't have to make a save). I am hoping that as McGinn's rustiness wears off and Rudden gets himself into the team we will look more of a threat. I like the midfield 3 that we played last night but they are not going to be the most creative (Adam can obviously pick a pass but plays deeper). Anderson is a top prospect but is more of a runner with and without the ball than someone who will unlock defences in the final third. I wonder if we'll consider McGinn there with McCowan out wide in home games against the bottom 6?
