Cammy the Case for the Defence....

Bad signings can end managerial careers. Hartley might never fully recover from that summer when he brought in Williams, Vincent and Hateley.

McCann's reputation was battered by that terrible summer.

McPake putting his faith in Cummings and Griffiths has turned out to be a massive error.

Rudden already looks a great signing but it might be too little too late to save the manager.

Agree with the basic point. What happens if John Nelms keeps McPake and the team gets better results?

McGhee gave a good account of how he felt about the latest game and what the players felt. Individual errors seem to be a recurring reason for losing goals. Perhaps the pressure put on our defenders contributes to those errors and that pressure is in part created by the formation the players are being asked to adopt by the manager?

It seems crazy that Kerr is our reserve left back. It seems daft to end up with only 2 strikers. It seems suicidal when substitutions are based on asking players to play in positions that are not the ones where they have spent the majority of their career learning.

Round pegs in round holes. Play to our players strengths not some master plan where they are not fulfilling all the roles that their unfamiliar position requires of them.

If Anderson buries that easy chance against County, Dundee win the game and the pressure is off McPake, temporarily at least, but that's football.

It's conceivable that we might get that next win under McPake and stay up but the problem is there is zero goodwill left in the bank among the fanbase to get through the next few weeks if we lose to Hearts and Celtic.

Kerr has proven himself to be a bit of a disaster in that position in the past. It's unforgivable that we're relying on him there.

If Nelms is desperate to keep his pal in a job then maybe a new co-manager is the answer. St Mirren stayed up after Tommy Craig was brought in to help Danny Lennon mid-season.

McPake looks like he could do with an old head to take the pressure off and guide him through this latest crisis.

Rubbish comment.

Fair enough.

Cammy is a great servant and really quite accomplished at RB when he's confident and playing well but I seem to remember him playing at LB a few years ago and it didn't work out very well.

No he isn’t he is the best of what we have, I believe he is the weakest right back in the league , a championship player of that. for every 3 things he does good there are 5 glaring errors…..

I remember Aberdeen fans raving about him and wanting to sign him but that was about 7 years ago. Since then he's had to play alongside some truly awful defenders. No stability with the management or the line-up. To the lad's credit he's somehow survived.

IMO he's such a good pro he's worth having in the squad. He has his good games and he has his bad games.

I think if we had two rock solid CBs, the full-backs wouldn't be such a problem for us.

Kerr and Marshall are good going forward. They are not good at being the last line of defence though.

I don't know what the answer is to our defensive problems but nobody at Dens seems to have the solution, and I don't think simply replacing Kerr will change anything. It was Daley-Campbell switching off seconds before the half-time whistle that changed the game on Saturday.

Btw I know it's unfair to single out the talented young Londoner. It's a failure of the club that we're relying on a youngster in a key position during a relegation battle.

What formation tho mate. Its hardly like their being asked to play something totally outrageous.

Fair comment, but Kerr can’t cross a ball, put a ball on his left foot and it’s in the stand or given away.  Marshall has more about him going forward but woeful in defence. be interesting to see the stats on how many interceptions the two provide to the team.

There's that phrase again, great servant. I would be a great servant to Dundee, doesn't make me a good player.
