Declan McManus

20 year old Aberdeen striker who's out of contract in the summer.

Just been awarded League 1's Player of the Year after spearheading Morton's title bid by scoring 23 goals.

Worth a look?

Player was linked with us when Bomber was charge. Was top scorer for Aberdeen in the development squad that season. Paul Hartley signed him for Alloa on loan after the loan deal for Martin Boyle fell through as Boyle had played for Montrose & Dundee already that season. I'm sure Paul will already have an idea if he feels he is ready or good enough for the SPL.

Think he's quite highly rated at Aberdeen and they'll probably offer him a new deal which means we'd have to pay some compensation. Am I right in saying he was signed from Queens Park a couple of years ago? Would mean any money due would be significantly less!

Worth keeping an eye on, im pretty sure that to date aberdeen havent offered him a new deal so might be worth a punt.

This one could be gathering pace. Duffy has came out and said it's unlikely he'll be able to keep McManus as teams in the top flight (Rumoured to be us and Partick Thistle) along with some clubs down South have shown an interest.

I can't figure out why Aberdeen are letting him go.

20 years old, been nominated for POTY in the third tier, scored 20 goals in 32 matches, is rapid, not injury prone and seems to have have his head screwed on.

Not the fastest and maybe not ready to start games at this level yet but when you see a young guy who's got potential, you've got to hang onto him (if wage budget allows). Might not be the most suited to us given our type of striking options but would still be an asset that we can loan to the second tier.

I'm sure I read that he was waiting until the end of the season before discussing a new deal with Aberdeen. Maybe discussions haven't started yet, but are planned? I agree that it would seem daft for Aberdeen to let a player with potential go to another club in the same division.

He would be fourth choice behind Rooney, Goodwillie and Shankland. Goodwillie might move on but I doubt a club like Aberdeen who will try and challenge next season will go into a season with one proven striker and two youngsters. If Goodwillie moves on they'll sign another proven striker and McManus will once again be fourth choice. Time for the lad to move on like Bain did for first team football.

I heard on Thursday from guys who were at the Aberdeen awards dinner that the rumor there was we are in for him. Scored goals but again like others its a gamble as he's not proven at this level yet, but definite potential there.
