Sitting Back

Recommended Posts

Why? That was an intentional choice as soon as we scored.

First half possession ended up 38%-62%. We were consistently slowing it down and had everyone behind the ball from the 15th minute.

We ended up losing the goal because our CH ended up as the furthest man up the park with zero out ball as the rest of the team were almost behind the 18 yard line.

We needed to go for it today and we chose to tactically not do that.

Gutted.

Crazy to sit back the you have the worst defence in the division.. in the end we were lucky to draw..

Manager played not to lose as soon as we scored team just sat back and let them dictate the game, I can’t believe they didn’t beat us, although a draw is as bad as a defeat

Adam and Gowser are completely finished in the top flight IMO. Come out with great intensity but they were genuinely shattered after about half an hour.

I don't see it as there being atactic to sit back, we don't have the athleticism and ability to control games. For the whole of this season, the only game we've looked remotely convincing in setting the tempo was St Mirren away playing around Sheridan as a target man.

You can sometimes carry an old head to contribute a bit of brilliance but you need a team who can support that. We are relying on it working and that big of magic getting us out of jail. It salvaged a draw in the Derby but wasn't good enough today.

If you don't have a squad who can set a tempo, you're pretty much done lMO.

Absolutely spot on

That's another thing, why are we back to playing one winger and Paul McGowan on the other side in the first place? Nonsense.

To be fair to the last manager, I thought it had finally clicked with him that he couldn't start Adam and McGowan in the same team.  Looks like MMG has yet to have that lightbulb moment.

I think today showed up how many of these players are just not cut out for top flight football, back 4 were excellent and they had to be, as we have the slowest, ponderous excruciating sluggish midfield, overrun so many times in that 2nd half it was unreal.

I agree to an extent on the tactics, but we simply just don’t have the legs to harrass and chase for 90 minutes.

Keeping Mcgowan on for as long as he did was a mistake, looks like a fish out of water on the left.

And we have a goalie that literally won’t come off his line, few players despite all the talk this week, never walked the walk, just simply not good enough.

The biggest worry is a lot of these players are signed up for next season, and knowing Dundee will be on SPL wages….

Will be there next Saturday, more for a good day out than the football, but it looks like it’s over now, wouldn’t bet against st mirren falling into 11th.

We looked like a championship team today especially in that 2nd half.

I wouldn't back us to finish above Cove next season unless there's a very serious re-think at the very top of the club

We are a championship team, it’s basically the team that came up…

Sweeney is arguably our best player, will probably get snapped up elsewhere.

Little room to change it.

Sheridan, Jakubiak  and Rudden chills the bone for next season as our striking options.

Agree with most of the above, playing for a 1-0 almost never works for us, it’s stupidity doing that with our defence.

I love McGowan, but he is a sub at the very most, and that’s being generous. Adams biggest contributions were a dive, and a free kick into the wall, hopefully he retires at the end of the season.
