Mark McGhee on Charlie Adam

Asked about Adam’s reaction, a spiky McGhee replied: “You would need to ask Charlie.

“He wasn’t injured, it was a tactical decision.

“He is a player, that’s all he is.

“He’s an important player who does a fantastic job but we took him off for our reasons.”

So a fall out then? Bloody brilliant, McGhee.

After Charlie stormed off the pitch I was half-expecting to hear about a broken door tonight and rumours of the player leaving the club.

If there was a fall-out I hope it wasn't one of those McCann v Bain or Bomber v Rab confrontations.

We need Charlie next season. McGhee can go back into retirement.

Charlie will retire. We need younger, hungrier, fitter players next season

Imo there was absolutely no need for McGhee to react the way he did, any manager with a bit of guile and sense could have easily fielded it.

I don't fully agree.

Charlie Adam single handedly got us out of the Championship last season and under McPake we built a team round him which was always going to be a recipe for disaster when you've got multiple games in a week and you're relying on a 36ish player running the show every time.

We need to get away from having the team built round him but there's absolutely no reason why he can't be a massive figure for the club bouncing straight back next season.

Could play a Gavin Rae style role and help us win the league then pack it in then.

He'll still be miles ahead of the Championship if he gets treated right and has a decent pre-season.

It's the 'he must be on his A game or we're a complete dud of a team' style that's ran him into the ground this season IMO.

The way he said "I don't want to talk about Charlie Adam" tells you something is not right in the dressing room.

No doubt there is more to come on this.

part of me agrees with mcghee...its a team game he made a few subs why the clamour from the media about 1 player...we all know if adam hadn't played for the rangers no one up here would give a fuck if he got subbed or not.,

Probably because they were remonstrating out on the touch line and he's widely considered our best player by an absolute distance! It's absolutely nothing to do with Rangers.

every fucking player who gets taken off should be remonstrating with the manager...its all down to who he is and who hes played for.there has been games where hes been utter horseshite this season and deserved to be subbied yet folk still kick up fuck...he looked fucked to me watching on the telly so ive no idea what went on between him and the bench.

It might be down to who he is, as in, the best football player within the squad aye, but nothing to do with he used to play for Rangers.

People kick up fuck because he's the only person in the squad capable of winning a game. Once he's off the park, usually the best we can hope for is to not concede and the stats bear that out.

so what your saying is regardless on how hes performing he must be left on the park c'mon now there has been numerous games this season when hes done nothing...im not denying hes the most talented player in our squad...but the minute mcghee refused to talk about him being subbed off should have been the end of it...but no its all the interviewer wanted to talk about..then to ask at the end will adam play again in any game this season was just piss poor from him.
