I argued the case against him many times and I've not massively changed my opinion.

He provides goals, absolutely, he's a decent wee player but with 1 up top formation and us being utterly rudderless without Charlie Adam on the pitch to create stuff, he'd have been anonymous up top and caused more problems for the defence than a wee workhorse like Mullen.

In a more balanced team, Cummings' goals would have been missed massively! In ours? He would've ended up being like a man down.

Sheridan getting that injury has cost us more IMO. We needed a guy that was big, strong, could hold the ball up and link play and get us working as a complete unit. That was a much bigger blow - and I don't think Sheridan has half the footballing talent that Cummings has!

Signing Griffiths and forcing him out was an issue, plenty of people said it at the time.

However, he can't play in a 451 formation, and thats the only way that we can play. This season was almost self harm, we seemed to go out of our way to screw ourselves over.

I am dismayed Sheridan could be our main striker next season. In my view he is a big gangly nuisance and that’s all,  slow with no pace. Not what any team wants. I would rather see Osman Sow back, joking, but that’s saying something.

I think we'll have a partnership of Jakubiak doing the donkey work and Rudden being more of a poacher style.

It's not going get anyone enthusiastic, but Rudden's proven he can do well in the Championship and Jakubiak is pretty good at donkey work when he's not injured IMO.

Hopefully we can a real quality addition that's a better option though.

I suppose you have to question the manager's reasoning when he brought Cummings in to formation and squad that couldn't play to his strengths..

I do wonder if McPake thought he could go 3-5-2 (Ashcroft, Sweeney, McGhee) that would have allowed him to have Charlie in the team but also play Cummings up top with another striker. However the injuries to  Ashcroft and Sheridan probably put paid to that idea and that’s when we were stuck with the 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 and therefore put paid to Cummings unfortunately.

Trouble is Ludo, he is always injured. If it were up to me, I would punt him.

That was what McPake did though. He was like a kid playing a football manager. Big name player became avaliable so he signs them regardless if they fit into the system. We should be signing players to fit a system not shoehorn them in
