62 Goals Conceded

Recommended Posts

62 goals conceded cost us relegation.

In restructuring the squad that’s where the new manager must start.

I think Sharp could be a useful goalkeeper, better than Lawlor ,maybe better than Legdzins-keeping errors cost us numerous goals and points.

Marshall last night at one point in the second half had a fresh air swing at a cross into our box-reminiscent of the County winning goal up there.

McGhee showed last night he has to move on to-guy waltzed past him for the goal.

Sweeney sttong and wins most in air but no composure on ball-I think we could do better.

Cammy has had a reasonably good season and has had driving runs into opposition boxes but can’t cross the ball.He holds his own defensively against most teams and has had a beenof man of the match on here freq uently.

He is the only one of the back 4 I would keep.

Really you wouldn’t keep Sweeney. If it hadn’t been for him our goals against would be a lot lot more

Fix the Midfield for Me.

Need a Working filling for the Dee Sandwich.

Been Years since we’ve had a cohesive UNIT there.

Absolutely so. Our midfield is is often gash. Lightweight, non combative. McPake was clueless when it came to signing midfielders.

I  would say that Sweeney should be kept. Him and  Ashcroft will do us fine at  the back. I actually wouldn't be surprised if someone came and tried to buy Sweeney. His ability on the air is so valuable. I agree that Marshalls defending is dodgy at times. Not so sure about Kerr. Having seen Dundee most games this season, he would seldom have got my MotM vote.  I think that we could do better ay fullback both sides.

Imo the defence is the last area we need to look at. The midfield has been largely non-existent / too slow this season with opposition usually having the freedom of the pitch to set up wave after wave of attacks which ultimately puts too much pressure on the defence. Our lone striker for large chunks of the season also means there is a lack of hold-up play at the other end of pitch to lessen the burden on midfield and subsequently the defence.
Address our front line with a target man and a proven finisher plus Rudden. Then overhaul our midfield around Byrne.

You defend from the front. Inability to keep the ball up the top end of the pitch brings pressure and pressure brings mistakes.

Your quite right Ludo "defend from the front" but unfortunately to do this you need numbers up front, you can't do  this with one man in their box and our nearest player is in our box. (OK a little bit exaggeration but you get my meaning)

That and our lack of mobility in midfield. We were always so vulnerable to any sort of break with pace. The legs we had in midfield last night helped in keeping the pressure off the back 4 a bit. Target man in games where we need to just give ourselves a break would have been huge.
