Are The Days Of Big Football Personalities All Behind Us ?

I am no' trying to start a thread on the "Good Old Days"                " Oh I can remember when, etc etc etc ........ "

But are there now too many rules, regulations, rigid systems and formations, and all that stuff, whereby players cannae express theirselves ?  Defeats cost money. Money of course must play a part as well, for both the clubs and the player.

Both players and referees themselves may be bound by so many new rules, they now feel they need some kind of college degree, not just to understand them, but to try to keep up with them. Some games never even seem to start even !!

Any kind of body contact, it seems to me is frowned upon. Players (in pain ?) encouraging the ref to produce a card.

The yellow or red card, is never far away ....... And a player just has to celebrate a goal now ...... AND HE IS BOOKED !!

I am no going baclk to the auld days .........   (Well that's a lie, cause I am a wee bit)

The players played with passion, as they do, most times today. But there was still time to show  a bit o' their own personality.

Some times have a bit o' a laugh with their supporters, celebrate a goal and interact with the crowd. No now, me thinks !!

I don't get to many live games at all now. So I could be totally wrong here.  What do others think ?

Oh aye ..............and I still like my fitba ...... sorry if it looks like a big moan !!

I agree and It's down to the fact that football has become a business Gedee. The personality of the game as a whole has been conditioned and driven out as the desire to turn as large a profit as possible has taken over from the simple love of being involved in the game. Success at almost any level nowadays depends solely on how wealthy your clubs chairman is. The old fashioned passion for football will never be lost to your average football fan but the room for any sort of big character or eccentric personality within the game itself is getting smaller and smaller.
