Dundee Keeper Bain’S Season Over But Door Opens For Roberts

Dundee have been dealt a blow with the news keeper Scott Bain is out for the season.

But manager Paul Hartley’s options could be boosted by the timely return of Phil Roberts to the fold.

The Dark Blues goalie injured his knee in training after the Celtic game and following assessment by the club’s medical staff has been told he’ll miss the last two games of the campaign.

“We will have to do without Scott,†said Paul. “He’s out for the season now. But Kyle (Letheren) was impressive against Inverness. He made a couple of great saves.â€

No 2 Letheren stepped into the breach in the 1-0 loss to Inverness, and will be expected to do so again for the visit of Aberdeen, then the trip to Tannadice on May 24 and Julian Speroni’s testimonial against Crystal Palace two days later.

It could be viewed as a late chance for the Welshman to prove his worth at the club, with his contract due to run out this month. But given reported interest from the English Football League and a keen desire to move in search of games to aid his international prospects, it seems unlikely to change the fact the Championship—winning goalie will be seeking pastures new in June.

Roberts, like Letheren, could also be involved in the club’s last two games of the season. The pacy wideman is no longer at Alloa, after his loan deal to the second tier Wasps came to an end. And should he see fit, Paul may name Roberts — who has a year left at Dens Park — in his matchday 18.

Meanwhile, Dundee have been told to cough up or face a tribunal in their chase of Kevin Holt.

Holt’s deal at Queen of the South comes to an end this month but the Palmerston outfit are keen to recoup cash for more than 10 years’ worth of development. The Dark Blues are reported to have tabled two bids for the 22-year-old which are yet to meet the Doonhamers valuation.

Queen’s boss James Fowler said: “He’s been with the club a long time and is a smashing player, one that we would be delighted to keep. If we cannot agree a deal and Kevin wants to go to Dundee, then we’d go to a tribunal.â€

Dundee have also been linked with a move for Aberdeen youngster Clark Robertson. The defender is out of contract at Pittodrie this month.
